Yep - what sold me on my car was that the mods I knew I would do were already done - thus saving me about $20K. Of course now I am afraid to drive the car and it spends most of its time sitting in the garage or being used as a commuter car by my wife.
We did drive it to LA last weekend as it was the star in my brother's wedding (he wanted to use it as the getaway car). I drove it about 50 miles (which took 3 hours) around LA on Friday and it was brutal. There is no reason to have a car like that in the LA metro area unless you want people to think you are a movie star - which according to my brother is why so many people were staring at my wife and me while we were driving down there. Up here, no one even looks twice at these cars unless they are Porsche fanatics.

I tried to find the car you are talking about and cannot. Can you point me to the modified 993 TT.
I too know that when selling cars, it's easier to sell the box stock - standard colors - nothing wierd.
So - I am sure that I am keeping my modified 993!

OK - $75k seems like market price to me. I didn't see any description of the modifications. I paid just over this for mine recently but if I wanted to move mine quickly I would expect to drop the price by $5 or $10k. No doubt the red interior is less desirable for most.

Man that interior would hurt the eyes on any drive over 5 minutes. But at 60- 65k I'd risk it and find a swap interior or a salvaged one. 75k would be a market for a "normal" car is my feeling. (Provided all else is well ofcourse.)

I'll answer my own question. A little persistent digging turned up a two page work order ($5,600!) that supposedly fixed 'a couple of rock chips'. I passed.
Yesterday, however, was bliss for a certified car freak like me. I drove a 996tt and 993tt back to back. Very interesting to compare the two.
Anyway, I've found a car I want to buy. 1996 with 17k kms (11k miles). Silver, black, sport seats, radio with cassette!, couple of rock chips, no paintwork, one minor curb rash on rear wheel. I'm pretty sure I know what to get checked (the independant shop familiar with the car insists a leak down check would be a waste of money) If any of you has any suggestions of specific things to check, it would be appreciated.
Finally, the clear protection on the leading edge of the rear wheel arches seems cloudy. Is that normal?

Check the LCD display in the tach, pulley update, belt access update, engine and rear window wiring harness updates, power steering seal ring update. My personal gut check on maintenance is fresh pollen filters, if they aren't clean other stuff was probably blown off too.
