Default Fuel

I can get 108 OCt leaded race gas at my local dealer.
He said thats a no no for the cats I was going to mix
it 2 (91) one (108) before I found out it was leaded.
Is that correct about the cats?
He said he could get me unleaded100 but I have
to by the drum at 55 gals a pop.

OG:

Do NOT, under any circumstances, use leaded race fuels in these cars. This is a big-big, no-no,...

Stick with unleaded race gas; Unocal 100 or Sunoco 104 for your car and mix either one 50-50 with 91 pump gas. Your TT will thank you for it with much improved and consistent performance.

Leaded fuels make a huge mess in the combustion chambers, on pistons, inside turbochargers and of course, will ruin the cats & oxy sensors very quickly. This stuff is only for race cars that truly need 108 and higher,....

Sorry for the newbie question, but is mixing gasolines(octanes) to achieve a target octane as simple as adding the two being added and taking the average?

Yes....

But don't use any of those 'octane boosters'. Just mix the different fuels together.

Mike:

Rick is right on here,.... Good advice to live by.

You might look at the "Let's Talk About Porsches" http://www.rennsportsystems.com/2.html page of our website and read the pages on fuels, octane and timing. I think there is a matrix chart that shows the resulting octane when 91 and 100 octane race fuels are blended.

Paul,

You don't need to buy a 55 gallon drum of 100 octane race fuel; Unocal has several stations in California that sell it at the pump. Do a goggle search and see if there are any stations in your area. For me, there is one in Agoura, where the 100 octane is $4.25/gal. I mix 1:3 with 91, to get about a 93+ blend. I figure that each tankful costs me an extra $10 or so. Your new TT will love you for it.

The last three times that I filled here in LV I added 3 gallons to 10 of 91. After 1 1/2 tanks the car was running awesome, smoother, faster it was loving it.
Yesterday I drive down to Riverside and have to fill up with 91, did some running around and topped off before I came home. There was a noticible diference in Performance on the way home. I Was still able to dust the C5 corvette though so all is well.

In the morning, she gets a treat at the 76 station.
