Default I need a clutch!

One thing after another at the moment!

My clutch is occasionally slipping when accellerating in high gear! I seem to recall installing a Sachs unit about 25k miles ago, not sure if that was upgraded though.

What do I need for my slightly tuned engine? Should I LWF too?

Thanks!

LWF RS clutch! Don't ask, just do it! When I need a clutch, that's what's going in.

Kevin sells a nice LWF clutch set-up. That is what is in my RUF. Reasonably priced too.

Maybe a subjective question, but what is the avergae lifespan of the clutch in a 993tt that was not abused or hard lunched (drag)? Kind like the stock LSD that at 30k miles or even bit less is done and need replacment. I think my clutch is slipping a little bit in 3th and 4th gear but I'm not sure, is not the typical slip of a clutch.

Like you said "subjective", very subjective on any wear item (brakes, clutch, tires). Person A may get 100k or more out of a clutch and B may get 20k. Can't really put expected numbers on that one. Even without abusive launches or horrible clutch habits, too many factors affect lifespan. Person A may get in and jump on a highway for 100-200 miles (daily) and then park it. B drives 15 miles thru 25 controlled intersections. A drives flat roads without many stops. B has dozens of stop sign starts, uphill. A may have some shoddy clutch work and more miles. B may have a great grasp on how to manipulate the clutch and drives a fraction of what A does, but the very nature of his driving will wear faster.

+1

I have Kevin's clutch and LFW too; couldn't be happier. Careful though the LFW makes you become a better driver. You have no choice but to shift quicker. Nice to feel it rev faster BUT the revs also drop just as fast leaving it more difficult to take a lazy drive; but if your driving these cars lazy you should be ashamed IMO.

Question to Kevin: What's an RS clutch? And do I have it? Meaning did you sell me that or its equivalent or just oem? I just deferred to your recommendation when purchasing...but how does an RS clutch differ from oem?

The RS clutch, was mainly in reference to the single mass steel flywheel that was offered with the 964 and 993RS, 997GT3RS series cars. The most frequent mistake that I see is not using the correct pressure plate. For the turbo we need the Sachs 752 or 764 pressure plate.

Bit of a thread hijack but it's interesting how 997 GT3 (997.2 3.8L iirc) owners lost their warranties for switching to an RS flywheel - PCNA claiming it caused some kind of harm to the engine.

My clutch doesn't seem to slip but it picks up/bites/engages really high up on the pedal stroke and is rather difficult to manipulate rapidly when on a hill.

Had a vacuum leak that had similar symptoms of a slipping clutch. 20k seems low for a failed clutch, but LFW is a nice mod as long as you handle the idle stall concerns.

Can anyone comment on this kit from FVD?

Ideally I would like to learn the OE part numbers and buy direct from Porsche / Sachs!

On your PP bolts line the N that preceeds 014 715 3 did not come over to the actual part number

After personally installing maybe 75 kits in 993tts and selling parts for way more, something to consider when doing swap is dumping the power clutch slave. Due to a number of factors MANY people doing the swap (which I do love BTW) wind up wind a clutch pedal that is like a hair trigger and releasing WAY to close to the top. This is just the way it is. Solution? Install the NA clutch slave and plug the power lines back at the junction bar in the engine compartment on passenger side. Really no issue going to non-power (can always be reinstalled). Car is more fun, easy to modulate clutch, and better engagement spot closer to floor. I have made many unhappy LWF owners happy again with this. Did it on my own 993tt and it was like night and day better.

I like this idea! As I much prefer the clutch on NA cars too.
