Default Anybody run 255s up front?

I'm slowly getting to the point of needing new front tires (have 24k miles on them).

Currently run a 235/45/18. Diameter is 25.3 inches.

Considering a 255/35/18, diameter is 25 inches. Rears 295/30s and are 24.9 so basically perfectly matched.

Trouble is this would be on an 8 inch 996 Turbo wheel. Its stretching it a bit.

I run a 6mm spacer.

Thoughts on this combo for the street? Trying my best to reduce understeer. Is this pushing it for the 8" rim?

thanks

Oliver I have 255's front but really can't remember the exact numbers since my car is away for the winter. When I get home I will put up the numbers. I am running a H&R 6mm spacer I believe.

993, do you run 255s up front because of your rims or something else?

I believe my rims are pretty wide upfront, if I recall I think 8.5 or 9 and 12 rears.

I do. On 8.5 rims. Does the manufacturer of the tires include 8" in the range of recommended rims widths? if so, don't see why it shouldn't work. Side walls will likely look a little fat but probably handle fine. Mine's okay on the street. The wheel well liner forward rubbed a bit at full lock so I pulled the liner forward using zip ties but my front bumper is aftermarket CF, and I think I have maxed castor, so may not have this problem stock.

It does seem a bit much on an 8" rim. Like Basal mentioned, visually it will look odd with the fronts being so bulky/fat vs. rears too.

You could possibly face some rubbing issues too. Seems like 245s would be the max.

That's what I thought. Who makes a 245/35-18 that you'd use, that also makes a 295/30-18?
I was having a hellava time trying to find matching sets.

i haven't found anyone that makes a 245/35 and 295/30, so thats why i was looking at the 55. Oh well, I'll just stick with the 235.

fwiw, I managed to get a 275 drag radial on my 8 inch mustang cobra rims. Actually didn't handle too bad, but pretty far from ideal.
