I think it's very well possible he gets close to his asking price or say high 80s, it will be on the very high end at this mileage, but anything is possible in this market.

A great sales person can sell anything, esp if you catch someone buying on emotion!

Guys, was there something specific about this car that puts its "expected sales price" in the 80's range. Is that what a 46K '9t TT goes for? The reason I ask is I may be putting my metallic black/black '97 TT (which also has HB sport seats...and red front seat belts) on the market this Spring. Mine has 58K miles and is also in phenomenal shape...clean CarFax etc. Like this car I have all service records since 2001 (it's been Rennlist owned since then). I really don't mean to "steal" the OP's posting , I just simply have been trying to determine what I could realistically expect to get for my car. After reading this post I am probably even more perplexed as to what I should price it at. So, I'll ask again.....what is it specifically about this car that would command a price in the 80's ? Thanks

It's not specifically about this car, more like the 993TT or air cooled market in general has taken a significant upswing. Mind you a lot is kinda of speculation at this point, things will obviously be more concrete if we start confirming actual selling prices or measure the time it takes for car to get off the market, let's estimate Spring/Summer this year there will be more #'s to work with.

Work it backwards based on mileage, what does a 20K miles TT go for nowadays, let's say $100-110K +/- depending on color etc. Certain mileage points you would see a measurable decline 40K, 60K etc.

Here's an interesting take on air cooled values:

don't worry about that.
my post was an attempt to educate a potential purchaser about the $17K price increase and make their decisions accordingly.

Two dealers have told me that they believe that sub 20k 97 Twin Turbos will be $180k cars by the end of the summer! Each one of these dealers recently sold such cars for prices in the neighborhood of $160k. Assuming that is true, is this guy so far off?

Not sure who this dealer is, but sounds off if we are speaking right now. Although they could of sold to any collector with deep pockets too. What happens by summer, who knows at this point.

I'd say these guys + Sloan are at the premium end of the market. So we should be able to make some factual assumptions based on this - eg. 18K miles asking $113K.

Keep in mind private sale most likely won't command the dealer pricing.

Be careful with Willhoit's listings. He sometimes leaves them up long after they are sold. Have you verified that those are still for sale?

His cousin at Premier Cars got a low mile 97 TT and listed for 150K.

I didn't email or call Michael, but I'm pretty sure there isn't a TT at Willhoit for 113K.

I believed there is some speculation going on. Time will tell.

No didn't verify and never knew that about his listings being left up.

If the case then yes it's possible the market is really up in the $150K range now, wow!

Wow, it wasn't a couple days ago. Listing at 150K for a less than a month. Unbelievable!

Well if the sale goes through, I wonder what the actual sale price is/was?

As they say, "talk is cheap" so no one really knows what is going on. I have been offered 130k for my 96 from a dealer, so that is the only data point that I have. When the twin turbos eclipse $140K they are into new GT3 territory so I wonder how much further they can go . . . unless pushed up by the collectors who don't really intend to drive them.

TT market has gone crazy since I sold my 26K mile 1997 for $75K in the winter/ spring of 2012. Just paid quite a but more for a similar mile, less option 1996...
