Question Help... Rufus must bu muffled

Ugh.
In about 6 months, I'll be moving to a beautiful, senior mobile home park. At least a couple of old farts have already complained about Rufus' noise. I recently got a pair of used 993TT mufflers, and FD Motorsports will be able to add the stupid mufflers to my car. Ugh. It sounds so sweet now.
So, as a last resort, can anyone think of some more temporary solution? Like jamming steel wool in the tail pipes or adding some sort of baffles? I would have to silence the car every time I came and went from the park, but would want to be able to easily unleash it, once out of the boundaries.
The current exhaust consists of Ruf sport cats followed by a u-bend that brings the exhaust to the center of the car. The tips themselves are very short.
FD Motorsports will be able to create a bypass for me, but I will not want to go through all that every time I leave the park.
Any creative ideas?

Steve,

I am guessing that you really only want to use it for the drive in and out of the home right? And to be normally open after a few hundred metres?

You "SHOULD" be able to rig up something like a single piece (with dual inlet /single outlet that you can slip over the ends. Then down turn this so the outlet is facing the ground. This way the sound is dissipated better.

You should be able to not only baffle this bait make it a quick on/off thing…. I have an idea and will draw something up and then post it for you?

Simon.

Simon,
Yes, you are right... I need to silence the beast only while in the park, and need to be able to easily remove and replace the "baffle". It doesn't matter if the baffle costs me 400 HP... I'll just be puttering in and out. Remember the old "Super Trapp" baffles? Are they still around? Do they work? Yes, any ideas and drawings would be most helpful. Thanks

Simon,
Great drawings! How do the baffles work? What is in there?

I like Simon's idea. You could probably buy off the shelf mufflers that you could slip over the exhaust tips. Will your new place have a garage?

Nice, if you are going to live in a mobile home that is where I would pick. I have seen some nice places in there.

You can buy the baffles on Ebay….

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BAFFLE-DB...item3f01860eb9

or

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Universal...item43a97f6388

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/UNIVERSAL...item19e6e87354

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Muffler-E...item3cb96ac8a9

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/UNIVERSAL...item20dd338cde

I was thinking that it would be more of a blocker - as opposed to a muffler?

Mufflers like Cherry Bombs or some small, light gizmos? There is nothing to support them. And yes on a garage... I'm taking out the existing 43 year-old mobile home, and having a new, custom, manufactured home installed. A tandem garage looks feasible... waiting for the soils report to know what area we can build on.

It depends on how quiet you need it to be. Typical small straight flow through mufflers don't do much. I have them on my center exhaust and it is still loud. As Simon mentioned, put a 90 degree bend to the ground and that will help a bit. Probably best to go to a quality muffler shop and test what they have.

Measure up the outside diameter of each tail pipe, the outside to outside measurement (width) of both pipes together and I'll seei if I can design something that'd work. It's gonna be a little difficult to grab after it's cooked on the way out of the complex. You want a safe way of stowing it while it's still hot. The heat will be greater due to the restriction of the exhaust gases.

Yes. Take out their hearing aid batteries when they aren't looking, and reinstall them upside down.

Also measure how far the exsisting tail pipes stick out. They're black aren't they? If they're large enough diameter we might be able to find insertable baffles for each pipe.
