Default Intercooler refresh!

As I will soon have the nice new intercooler hoses I decided to freshen up the intercooler itself. Thorough clean with brake cleaner and airgun, then silver paint and red caliper paint on the shroud.

Looks good Matthew, nice job!

Much oil around when you cleaned it out?

Looks great in SY Rick! I did do the shroud in Midnight blue 2 years ago but it didnt really stand out too much, hence the red now. I was also fed up with the crap finish at the factory of the intercooler, the paint just flakes off, again thats why I went silver.

I just noticed this. You should remove the placard on your car so you can go over 187 mi/hr!

The only speed restriction is $$$$$. The more you're willing to part with, the faster you can go.

Looks great! I thought black in general had better heat dissipation properties? Anyone know about heat dissipation paints?

True the black body radiator effect would make the intercooler a bit more efficient. But painting something black doesn't in my opinion make it a black body. It really comes down to the heat dissipation properties of the paint. If it is not as efficient as aluminum, then it acts more like an insulator.

So painting the radiator is a downgrade in my opinion, but in reality, by how much? Probably not enough to worry about.

Most of the heat transfer is dependent on surface area, air flow and the difference in temperature and the heat coefficient of aluminum (on the inside) and that of the paint on the outside.

However, aesthetically I don't like to see the dinged up aluminum against the black. Mine was in pretty good shape when I bought it. Others I saw when looking not so much.
