My old BMW 528e's manual said to run at high revs once a month to burn out carbon. I drove that car to 200,000 miles and the engine remained strong when I sold it.

I don't know about red line, but is there a way to find out if this is bad or good for the engine?

Thought I would give this a try after fully warmed up, approached red line and held steady for about 15 seconds at 6,500. Holy S%$t batman these cars are fast and solid!

why would you hold the car at 6500rpm for 15 seconds?

I saw the recent video from your mountain run. Very nice! And you didn't do this a few times on that run? Maybe 7.5 seconds twice??

Earlier poster said to clear out the waste gates. After doing it, all I can say is try it and find out.

thanks, always a good time those runs.

As to holding at such a high rpm, nah, the highest I would stay neutral on the throttle is maybe 5500 and not for long. Revs is really one of the biggest killers of engines.

as I read it, you simply take the car to redline under throttle, you don't hold it at rpm.

There is nothing to try really, all you get is a buzzy engine...under hard acceleration is a different story.
