On one of your original points about 993TT vs 930 or 997 Turbo... have you driven all three? It sounds like you're leaning strongly towards 993TT. I've driven all three and own a '77 930 and a '96 993TT. They're all different, but the 993 or 997 are more similar than the 930. 930 is very raw... slower on street or track in terms of stop watch, but has a very visceral feel compared to the 993 or 997. 993 or 997 are more modern & refined, truly everyday supercars. They're all awesome, just in different ways.

In terms of depreciation, as you say either a 930 or 993 is not likely to experience dramatic depreciation unless you put tons of miles on it. A 997 (currenly $70-80K typically) will still likely depreciate a bit in the next 1-5 years (esp once 991 Turbo comes out) and who knows where they'll end up, though I suspect they may hold their value slightly better than 996 turbos which now trade in the $40Ks. Nice examples of 3.3L 930s ('78-89) can be had for <$50K, but the first gen 3.0L ('76-77) and slantnose (930S) models are starting to push into high five figure territory given their rarity and collectibility.

Lastly depending what you want to do with the car and your total budget, it might inform which car to get. All three will be great cars out of the box and there's examples of all three both stock and modified. For those who want to go down the path of modifying, there tends to be a pretty broad array of what you can do and it's a little easier on 930 because of the simplicity (single turbo, RWD, non-EFI as stock, etc). So if you want to heavily modify and your total budget was say $65-70K you'd probably be better off spending two-thirds of that on a nicely sorted 930 and one-third on upgrading. In terms of holding their value, in all cases (930, 993, 997) obviously heavily modified cars are usually valued at a material discount to nice stock examples unless it's a pretty special version (e.g. some RUF cars, Andial 3.8 twin plug 993TT).
