Default 993 GT2 rear wing is heavy

I pulled off my OEM GT2 wing and fitted the original turbo wing just for a "change"
I couldn't believe just what an anchor the GT2 unit is !!

The factory turbo wing is hollow and at the time hailed as clever technology through its light weight design, it weighed about 4-5kg (didn't weigh it but pretty good guesstimate)

I got the scales out for the GT2 bi-plane....... 18kg

What were Porsche thinking reducing the weight of the GT2 so much (1290kg DIN) but sticking this bloody lump on ?

I guess they were looking for the Ram air effect and Aerodynamics....I personally like the whale wing and adds more downforce I have heard.

The only car I've worked on with a GT2 wing, the whole engine lid was about ¼ the weight of a stock Turbo lid. I guess that means it wasn't an OEM GT2 wing/engine lid.

9.4kg ? it felt a lot less than that, I thought it about the same as my wave board - maybe I need to recalibrate my butt-scale

CF has to be the way to go for GT2 wings, you've a nice 10kg saved with the Getty. I wonder what happened to all the factory GT2 rear spoilers as all the race teams must have taken them off for CF ?

I always preferred the look of your car with the stock wing anyway.
Maybe time for another set of photos (for inspiration).

Hey Steve, funny you say that
I took the 993 out the other day, started first crank after 2 years. Because my 997 engine is taking so long to finish (actually the engine is finished but the weather has been so bad in Southern Germany that testing RWD 800hp at full speed has not been possible for the last month) I just loved how the K24 3.8 drives, it is so damn torquey low down (really cheered me up and got me excited about the 3.9 litre K24 997)

Anyways I am thinking of smokin round in the 993 for the next couple of weeks so I whipped off the outrageous GT2 spoiler and I am thinking of putting these 19" OZs on in gloss black (just to funk it up a bit)

I just weight a OEM Gt2 tail that I have in storage, you are right it weights a lot, but the size of the GT2 wing pales in comparison to the stock turbo wing!

18 kg does seem excessive. TB, did you take advantage of the air intake off the GT2 wing? Or had you left it things stock so you can switch back to the stock wing easily?

More pictures please. Those wheels look great and the turbo spoiler looks a refreshing change.

Have you done anything with the interior since your last post seeking options?

The GT2 wing on El Guapo is carbon fiber, ex Jochen Rohr's race team. The factory wing element is also from his 1998 championship winner. The wing weighs more than the whole bloody decklid!

Nice Oz wheels. What is the model name of the wheels?
