Default 993TT transmission overhaul

Okay guys, who should I inquire with about rebuilding my transmission?

Todd K said he doesn't mess with them much anymore. So I would like to hear from you guys whom may have needed it done already. Of course I need power handling. But the way these things are stock... I can't imagine they need much of an internal beef upgrade.

If you guys have cost experience. Or bang for the buck recommendations feel free to shoot a PM.

There are some things one can do to improve durability, not to mention addressing the stock LSD,......

What year is your TT? How many miles on it?

Whats your time frame?

Third gear exploding is an issue once power goes up and you track. 1-2 syncro can stay if its in good condition but replace the rest with steel. You can get into other parts but thats the basic route. Get your parts from guard (including the LSD) and have a good race shop put it together. Copans did mine. FYI you can ship it in a big igloo cooler if there is no one local

So far this is all good advice. What do these typical steel overhauls run?

Brian Copans in OH did a great job on my transmission a few years ago. I upgraded to steel syncros on the process. Brian is definitely an expert and very well respected in the Porsche racing world.

As you know, Steve is the man when it comes to 993s - so I would certainly defer to his advice.

I can recommend CMS http://www.californiamotorsports.net.

They rebuilt mine, along with several upgrades (steel syncros, billet forks, billet diff plate, oil spray bar, LSD).

They recently did some work for me on an RSA G50. Always top notch work and very helpful.

I emailed Copans first day of thread... No response. Maybe old fashioned telephone call will work better.

Yes, call Brian. You make speak to his wife, who is helpful.

I had a lot done to mine, but think that my invoice from Brian was $6k. That included a new mainshaft (1-2), steel syncros, sleeves, and 6th gear. Maybe other stuff too. That was in July 2009.
