I had that one and the shut-off failed. Keep an eye on it. Got my $86 (yup that's the Canadian dealer price) and bought a CTEK 3300 and an orange Motomaster Eliminator 2/4 amp Intelligent Charger. They both work great. Eliminator is more automatic and charges a drained battery more quickly but you'll have to come to the Great White North to get it!

Hey Boys,

I'm a little confused about the cigarette lighter plug, what does this do?

In Porsches (all of them afaik), the cigarette plug stays hot, even with the ignition off. So that the trickle chargers/maintainers can be plugged into the cigarette lighter instead of having to hook the charger up to the battery.

There's also a cigarette lighter plug that you can connect a 9v battery to when you disconnect the main battery so that it keeps the system juiced up and you don't need to reset the radio code etc.

Thanks for the clarity,

9v battery????? And if I just disconnect the main battery (12v) and don't use the cigarette lighter with a 9v will I just lose the radio code? Cause that's not a big deal, cause I have the code and would simply punch it in.

The radio code is a minor inconvenience. A possibly larger issue are the ECU "Readiness" codes that will get reset if they lose all voltage. Getting them set again can take a while... so if you live in an area that has smog checks, and you have one coming up, this can be a near disaster.

thanks TT i think the one you posted at CTC took the place of CTEK. I get the CTEK name to come up in any CTC searches anymore. Same idea re the one you posted just a different name brand.
