Default inter cooler mount broken, how to fix?

The mount that attaches to the fan housing, the round tab thingy. The intent cooler seems stable, did come up on the ppi but thought it minor enough that I wouldn't pass up a low mileage car. So any helpful hints / do I need to get real good a aluminum welding:-)

Thanks

Ron

JB Weld. But don't trust me, I usually recommend duct tape for everything.

You mean the bottom two tabs, the ones that have a bolt that run through the intercooler mount and the fan shroud? If you have the pieces (and even if you do not) a good welder with a TIG can build that out and reshape it so its as good as new....

If you end up having to buy one, FVD sells one for their intercooler which can replace the stock unit (not sure if stock is cheaper). I'd try welding first too.

Mike,

Yes that's it exactly the thing that the bolt goes through with the square nuts on the backside. Unfortunately don't have the piece that would to easy and contrary to my normal luck. Thanks for confirming the welding bit. Well I guess I'll add it to the list for D Jacobs to do when he has the car

I had the same issue (the ear on the fan housing sheared off). I had it repaired while the engine was out. Not sure of the exact welding process, but it was relativly inexpensive and the result was like new.

At this point I can only speculate, but yes I've added it to the list of things that could potentially keep me up at night

I asked the same question....The fastener (nut) on the back side is rectangular and is designed to fit into a rectangular recess. If it is not properly alligned and the "bolt" is over torqued, the shroud ear will snap.

With the shroud removed the repair was $65.
