I'm not knowledgable enough to enter a debate on this topic but feel the OP should hear all views.
My Tuner built and builds many 700hp race 993 turbo engines and builds/rebuilds 100-150 Porsche engines every year (with probably 50% being air cooled) including properly testing them on engine brake.
They use the factory recommended Mobil 1 0-40 in every Porsche engine, even the Carrera GTs with 6.0 litre 770hp conversions get this..... FWIW etc

The main debate has been around what oils promote the best engine longevity - 700hp turbo engines are not designed to last long, they likely need disassembly quite often since they are so highly stressed - so they do not really offer a good example if that oil is really good for long life engines. By "long life" I mean 100,000miles +.

What would be interesting to see if your tuner tracked, on each air cooled engine rebuild, the year/mileage/usage/wear/change intervals/oil used on each rebuild to build up a statistical model to show which oils appear to minimize wear and help with longevity. That would give some actual substance behind some of the arguments, and your tuner appears to have the volume to get to a model in a year or so.

I know for a fact that when I switched from 10w-60 Castrol EDGE to Mobil V-Twin 20W-50 oil, my car stoped smoking at the start up every time it was parked for quite some time with out using it. Not the brand, but the oil viscocity and chemmical components is what you need to find out what works best for your particular engine.

I had the same experience as DiegoR.

I'm amazed air cooled cars with 0w-xx are getting absolutely no smoke unless they are in Anchorage in the middle of winter.

My fear would be the 15w-20w is hiding a potential problem with the engine. I seemed to just get smoke out the left tail pipe.
