044 Fuel pump upgrade on 993 Turbo
#16
I just completed the 044 pump upgrade. It's really straight forward with the right fitting from TurboKraft. It's the black one in the pic. This screws into the 044 and give you the barbed end needed to connect to factory inlet line.
The stock 993 pump is rated at 205lph/4bar@12v. The 044 pump is rated at 240lph/4bar@12v. Not a huge upgrade but I'll take the 17% added headroom for piece of mind. I was getting pretty close to the limits of the stock pump.
Lessons learned...
*Electrical connectors need to be changed. The large spade goes on positive with the 044. It's the other way around with factory connectors.
*Change tank inlet filter. Mine was not clogged but it did start to collapse. Only 31k miles.
*Reuse all the stock mounting hardware. I've seen guys cut the rubber isolator boot off the pump and clamp new pump to the bracket. Makes for a VERY noisy pump. Mine is dead quiet. Just like stock.
*Pay close attention to the clocking of the pump on the mount. Positioned correctly the pressure side is not kinked and does not rub.
*Should have started with less gas! Draining 1/2 tank was no picnic!
*Read up on fake vs real 044 pumps. The fake ones could cost you an engine!

I attached specs for the 044 pump. I used the above comparison at 12v at 4bar because that is all I had for the stock pump. In the wild the 044 should be running 13+ volts and whatever pressure (base + boost) applies to your situation. The ramp rates should be parallel between stock and the 044 so you can use that to determine where you stand with stock using 205lph @ 4bar as a baseline. Another option is to use the 044 specs and deduct 17% of the value. Not exact science but gives you an idea.
There are good pump formulas available online. I like the injector dynamics version. Compare a few to get a god ballpark of your needs.
The 044 pump output varies quite a bit depending on voltage applied to it. I have seen situations where re-wiring the pump with 10 gauge wire and 25 amp replay has a dramatic effect on pump output. It's going to be the next thing I do before making the swap to the AEM 380 pump and E85. I attached the specs for that pump as well. It's the same body as the 044 but with bigger inlet/outlet and who knows what else inside. Note the effect the check valve has on performance.

Hi Guys,
I have a Genuine Bosch 044 for sale with the adapter, I bought the fuel pump hoping to fix my no starting problem, But it turned out to be a loose MAF connection plug.
Paid $ 279 for the Bosch 044 fuel pump and $40 for the adapter from Turbokraft.
Shoot me an offer......Buyer pays shipping.
Thanks
