get a 996 turbo for a DD. You'll save money, make more power for less $. What do you consider reliable? - a stock 993tt motor is always going to be more reliable than a 500+ hp one.

I've been DD'ng mine for about 7 years with a pretty aggresive suspension set up (good roads here though) and use it for occasional track days. No complaints.

I haven't had to do anything other than oil changes and wear items in the last three years or so.

The car did need a top end done at 50k miles due to crap valve guides, and prior to that the usual suspects like clutch accumalator & slave, fan resistors, and suspension bushings were replaced. Probably a few other things that I'm forgetting too.

All in all I think I've probably spent more on mods.

I've been sitting on a pair of K24's for the last 6 months or so that I got a great deal on from here too. That'll get me close to 500hp for under $5k. (shoulda put cams in during the top end rebuild)

The only other car I'd consider is a GT3.

Have fun.

I've DD several 911s in/out of the city really without issue. My favorite was the 997tt 2007 model.
Your parameters would be far better met with a 997tt. I also had a 997.2tts with the pdk, now that car was fast!

Thanks for the replies. On paper the 997TT appears to be a better choice.

However, it looks like the 993TT should work nearly as well - perhaps giving up a little in comfort and drivability. From what I've gathered (correct me if I'm wrong) there are no chronic catastrophic failures inherent in the 993TT. Most of the areas of concern appear to be age and wear/tear related.

One is a 5 yr old car, or less, with a lot better creature comforts. The other 15yrs old. Having said that, I'm considering the same thing, looking at a 993tt as a dd right now, always wanted one, not getting any younger etc.
I have a friend with a 97 993tt that he has been dd in / out of the city since new. Never any major issues.

they run better when driven imo and are cheaper to maintain. "15K service intervals" under $1K..."30K service intervals" about $1500.

oil change every 15K...per factory recommendation. you want to change more frequently...go ahead...i don't see need w synthetic oil.

clutch outlasted the first engine...as did turbos...swapped turbo s engine from salvaged s at 245K.

new turbos are available...last time i checked...they were about $1500 ea.

to each his own...but for me...docile when you want it...power when you need it...great as a dd.
All i can is WOW! just wants me to go get a high milage turbo and say who cares
