Blowing smoke on start up! HELP please

Not good for me. It's not a full on leak (no puddles) it seems to be weeping. This is a "Plate/cover" over back side of the left side of the engine. Generally what i had read is leave it until you need engine out for something else. From what I could see my valve covers left/right were okay. Car goes to RMG Sunnyvale tomorrow so we will see, doing 1000mile oil sample, check engine light (p1140 most likely-cruise control not working?), shifter rattle, and some other small checks.

I chased this P1140 for a couple years. Would get the CEL and see the P1140 code. Reset. Clear. Do another few thousand miles, and it came back.
Put in new MAF sensor (not cheap) and over 8,000 miles, and life is good.

Really bummed. No leaks - good but my dme unit is dead not communicating. Clutch slave cylinder is crap. Car runs like an angle (are they suposed to sound like a flatulence machine gun on full throttle?) but have to get the dme unit right. No car to cuddle for maybe a week maybe longer.
sorry totally off topic.
They said it was blowing a little smoke on each start up too but not an issue we're dealing with atm. just under 12k but I'm driving this one and keeping all records of maintenance.
At least Kimi got second in Bahrain ;-(

that is extremely cheap for a turbo. New bolts, gaskets, and hardware for the turbo removal runs at least $150. For a shop to do all that labor for $350 or in 3 hours would be very impressive.

I had a repeat of moderate smoke (verses an occasional wisp of smoke on start up) after letting the car sit three weeks. It smoked on start up and down the street until I got on the freeway. So normal for a three week sit or not? I am concerned about the mech possibly filling the car up with too much oil. I did not have this problem last year. AFAIK I've followed all the basic advice - filters, cool down, level or rear of car raised. No affiliation with the manufacturer but my lithium battery started the car okay after 3 weeks and no tender.

If you do a search on my username you will see I have a panic/freak out thread about smoking that spans several years.
The short version (I plan to update my own thread with the long version);
First smoke show due to Mahle filters used.
Second smoke show due to oil overfill.
In the second case I had lingering smoke out of the driver tail pipe even after I thoroughly cleaned the oil out of all plumbing it was not supposed to be in including intercooler, intake plenum, runners, etc, intercooler hoses, plastic turbo pipes etc.
This was presumed to be a failing passenger side turbo but turned out to be caused by the driver side muffler being soaked in oil which started burning every time it got hot.
Muffler replaced. Smoke free ever since.
A month ago I awoke the beast from its winter slumber using some techniques posted here including keeping it on a battery tender as well as draining turbo sumps and cranking to build oil pressure with dme and coil wire pulled.
Started right up and just a split second puff. I actually took a video of this that I want to post but haven't figured out how to blur the plate.
Car sat for 3 weeks and I used it this weekend. No smoke on startup or otherwise. I do not have check valves or modified oil lines. Completely stock.
Not a knock against those products and the infinitely helpful people on this board who make them available. I just haven't needed them to solve my issues thus far.
Changing the oil this week. Going with v-twin. Fingers crossed.

I think this year has the most smoking issues and oil puddles that I have ever seen. Here is a good check list that I have been using lately. Even though I ask about the filters at question 8.. It's amazing to see how many shops STILL put on Mahle and Mann filters..
First off, one needs to remove the plastic inlet pipes to your turbochargers to inspect for oil.
2) What oil weight are you running? 0W40 from a Porsche dealership service?
3) What is the oil LEVEL when hot at the dipstick.
4) When you remove your sump tank drain plugs how much oil is present.
5) Have your turbochargers been replaced or REBUILT.
6) How many miles are on your engine?
7) What are the engine LEAKDOWN numbers..
8) What is the brand of oil filters on your engine?
9) How long have you had the car, AND how long has this issue been present after a oil change??
