This 2005 turbo is way nicer than 96/97 turbo..

The 1996 input shaft is not up to a drag race, side-step the clutch start. The 1997 is a tiny bit stronger, but still not up to that kind of abuse. Drive the car in first gear and see if there is any vibration or whining. Also be sure to decel in first gear. This problem is not as common as some think... perhaps because we don't drag race our cars.
