Default My wife doesn't approve and I need some help!

My wife doesn't approve of the B&B exhaust that was on my car at time of purchase. I agree with her that its really loud at idle, but i like how it sounds at 3k RPM +. In an ideal world I would want it to sound tame at idle and aggressive during acceleration

After adding a custom 996 3 spoke steering wheel, 18" RUF wheels, Golden Rod & Short shift kit, hard wired escort radar detector, new stereo, and arctic silver painted bumperettes, I'm not sure i want to drop some more money to put in a new exhaust unless its easy and it makes a dramatic difference. (pics coming soon!)

My car has a chip, not sure when it was put in or who put it in, but i remember reading somewhere that the headers will set off the check engine light unless its tuned, and I'm not sure i want to open that can of worms.

With all of that said, please excuse the lack of knowledge on my part but I'm looking for answers on the following:

1. Will I need to change the headers if I change the exhaust?
2. If I change the headers or exhaust, will i need to reprogram the chip
3. How can I find out what kind of chip is in my car?
4. Assuming its not as complicated as I'm making it, what exhaust can I switch to so I have a soft idle and aggressive sound during acceleration?

Thanks in advance for everyones input!

No matter what u do, it's loud at idle.
Even in stock form, my wife complained it was loud.
Now i have a bypass and is even louder at idle(only a little) so she stays away.

You should find someone with stock exhaust and compare. It really isn't much more so tell her there's nuthin you can do.

I have a C4S with a FD Stage II exhaust and I used to have a B&B. The FD is less loud and less 'drony' at least IMO. Happy for you to hear it if you want.

No mufflers here. FabSpeed bypass pipes. Love it. Great sound and gurgle.

I recently saw a stock OEM Turbo exhaust in the market forum here for $350. You should buy it, and send it to FD Motorsports, and get the sage II or III and have it ceramic coated black velvet.

you could always leave the exhaust the way it is and just get a divorce...

I sold my loud cabin booming between 2k+3k rpm B+B mufflers a few weeks ago and kept the B&B headers but bought new 993 mufflers which is a world of difference sound quality wise; but tad drop off in performance. The B&B headers allow use of stock mufflers as the muffler is attached to the stock CAT not the header (of course). The B+B Headers attach to the stock CAT as well. Cannot use engine cover with B+B headers.

Thanks again everyone for the responses. I'll pick up the turbo mufflers and see what FD can work up for me. I should note that there problem isn't from inside the cabin, it's more the neighbors and taking out to town.

I used to live in an area with very close houses. I was concerned that I would disturb my neighbors with my loud bypass...they actually liked the exhaust just not when the brakes squeaked. They named my car "the growling beast"!
