Guard LSD long term review
Well after 5 years of track use I figured the LSD should go back to guard for a rebuild while the engine was out. Car didn't show any signs that the diff was shot but from what I heard these things needed attention every few years. Matt from Guard gave me a call saying that he wouldn't rebuild it since it was within new spec. Said it looked brand new actually! Have to say that after so many years of track use with a 2wd turbo, slicks and poor driving, hearing that was a surprise!!
The diff is a guard unit 50/80 setup for racing. Plates showed .02mm wear.
Matt could have told me it was shot and I would have been more than happy to pony up for the rebuild but he was stand up and honest about it. Guard has kept me for a customer thats for sure
For those guys with the stock LSD with guard plates I'm curious how ofter you have to rebuild them? If I can get another 3-5 years out of my diff then I think that was a better option $$ wise than rebuilding the stock LSD multiple times in the same period
Anyway its glad to see a product performing as it should. Its rare thing in this hobby a lot of the times!

I have a guard as well. They are very sturdy and a great mod. I knew my oem was shot when I'd get on power on track out and and inside rear would spin. Now I just get power on oversteer.

This echoes my experience with Guard those of and any other POC racers that I have talked to, their components are proven! If you track your Porsche, AWD or not if you have a factory diff you should consider rebuilding your diff with Guard internals, it makes a big difference. There also seems to be an amazing difference in the tolerances of the preload/overall thickness of the plate stack between different factory units, and Matt can correct that to optimize performance and life of the LSD.
I recently rebuilt by tired factory 951 LSD using Guard internals, and I am happy to report that my car is back to being a proper drift machine! ;-)

Senility is a bad thing Matt. I had a 60/40? LSD put in maybe 5-8 yrs ago and it still seems to be working? My only criterion is it's still running down gt3rs's today at mid Ohio. Not sure what a car does when the LSD wears out but will look into it.

And I'm thinking another reason to keep your LSD in good shape is that too much wheelspin will stress the the viscous coupling even further contributing to its early(er) demise? Not a big deal for road driving but important if you track the car and want to keep the AWD in place and working.
