Default Stick shifter rattle

hello everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has had an issue with their stick shifter rattling? It only occurs when hand is lifted off the shifter and is silenced by putting hand back on it. If someone has had this issue, what could it be that is making this sound, and how was it corrected?

Thanks in advance,

might want to think about changing the shifter bushings etc
also, it sometimes is a sign of when the old ball and cup joints are going bad.
loss of shifting happens when the ball and cup finally separate
just my 0.2

Is it a big job to change the ball and cup joints? And would you know roughly how much something like that would set me back?

There's a rubber insert and wire clip that hold the **** to the lever. If either if these are missing or installed incorrectly the **** will buzz as certain speeds. Has the gear **** been off recently?

If the rubber piece were missing in the **** itself, I'd imagine that thing would be very loose.

I'm guessing it has to do with the little plastic bushings...they do wear.

Ball and cup joints are probably not the issue.

More likely it is the **** itself.

I helped a friend diagnose something like this a few years ago - turns out the PO had removed the shift ****/boot and must have lost the rubber thingie as pieces of rolled up duct tape were taped to the end of the lever. Worked OK for a while, long enough for my friend to buy the car! The correct Porsche parts sorted out the problem.

I fixed this on my C2S, I have the aluminum sport shifter and it would rattle at speed. It was as simple as taking the boot off and tightening the set screw. Hasnt made noise since. Hope this helps

ahhhh, so that's why mine rattles i'm guessing.
This is after I threw out that hideous old **** and installed the 996TT carbon jobbie.
That can wait till the weekend.
Cheers
