The Turbo Hunt
Hi guys I’ve been looking seriously for a car since September, just missed out on a great car in October (Knight you got a great car) and a deal fell through at the PPI stage on the midnight blue car in NJ on Autotrader. I’m hoping third times the charm. I’m only in town for 2 more weeks and then heading on vacation for a month. This time I’m hoping on sticking with a West coast car, as trying to work something out back east was a major headache. Here is what I am looking for
Miles: under 60k
Price: under 70k
Exterior colors: anything but arena red, guards red, polar or artic silver and white
Interior color: anything but classic grey (I’m on the fence about tan)
Options: Sports seats,
carbon or aluminum shifter and handbrake
carbon wheel
carbon parts (a car with exclusive carbon trim would be ideal)
wide ovals
factory stereo (or at least be included in sale)
Mods:
K-24 or K-24/K-16 hybrid turbos (and all the stuff that goes along with that conversion)
Suspension addressed, bistein Pss 9 or 10’s
bumperette delete with euro clears and ducts
ruf wheels (already have a set, but can’t hurt to have more)
No major accident history
not expecting to find a car with everything, but the more checks the better.
If the car is listed on ebay, autotrader or here, I have already seen it. I’ve been paying close attention to Craigslist and Pelican, but I may miss things from time to time.
If anyone comes across a car and thinks to themselves “I would buy this car if I had the money or the space in the garage” please send me a pm.
thanks,

It was not an issue so much with the car, but with the owner. I found him difficult to deal with in terms of working out a deal (long story). I called to book the PPI, and I have a very long list of things to be looked at (see my post on the ultimate PPI revised). He thought my expectations were over the top and didn’t want the PPI to go forward. I know the car has not been driven in the last 3 years and only has been driven 8k miles in 9 years. I was worried about seals being dried out and just the overall health of the engine sitting for so long. I’m not sure if he was hiding anything, but make sure you do your due diligence on the car.
best of luck with the purchase of the car.

In the pictures, you'll notice the snow on the ground, definitely not recent pictures
Your experience with the owner may explain why it's for sale for so long
But if the car actual checks out, but then again...

Did you peruse this one? Not as a purchase candidate, but as an example of what's currently on the market...

Hmm, interesting few posts.
I also met/saw the NJ car - although the seller seemed to be a bit up-ity, to me his knowledge and love of the p-car was evident in the other toys he had (you did see them, no?). After that I thought him to be honest and earnest. There was a glitch with the title which was explained, plausible and could have been resolved. I was suspect of the few mods but I thought the condition was worth the price. I did not drive the car (he would have let me) he only pulled it out. He was ok with a PPI but in the end I was re-offered a deal I thought fell through so I never got back to him. So IMO unless there is conclusive evidence to the contrary I thought that midnight blue one would have made a decent pick (esp relative to that which is on the market -I too had been looking for over 6 months)
I also considered a black one in the mid to upper 60's at Sloans - we just missed hooking up; I considered the black one in RI but wasn't too keen on the repaired sheered bolt in the paper work I saw; I met the NJ guys at the time they had an arena red w/ gray int had high miles but price was not ridiculous the black one they are listing now looks better than the a red one I saw and is priced better - I wonder?
Hope this helps...
