Beefier First Gear... 96 change?
I have a 1996 993TT, build date 6/96... Did they start implementing the "beefier" first gear in late model 96 cars, or is it MY97 only?
Figure someone may know, the part#s are identical.
Thank you, Ross

Wonder whether I've got the bigger shaft too.......lost track of an article that claimed June and July '96 production cars have the stronger first gear input shaft but have not been able to confirm with PCNA, etc. Story is they ran out of the pre-'97 shaft and just used the '97's which were already in stock. Very difficult to get input on this since it's only of interest to very few of us.........

To be honest I don't know much about Quaaludes. Downers right? With regards to first gear, I too question how much difference it makes. Probably matters more on the drag strip which I could care less about...

We called them "wall bangers". This was because after swallowing one of those 714's one would miss the doorway you were attempting to go through and slam into the wall. We considered this amusing. I blame it all on disco and I am forever thankful I got through it all intact.

Twin Turbo's First Gear
The "ONLY" transmission problem we have ever had with allllllllllllllllllllllll the Twin Turbo's we've sold was 1st gear in a 97 !!! Sooooooooo go figure !! A non issue in my opinion unless you flog it every day like John Force !!

My very fuzzy recollection was that Porsche wanted to post a really great 0-60 time for their brand new 993TT (this would be in 1995). They got Hurley Haywood, a 993TT (possibly Waldo), and brought a pile of 993TT transmissions to the track. They didn't quit until Hurley recorded the famous 3.6 sec 0-60 time.
Does anyone else recall this story from a magazine? Am I making this up (again)?
After PCNA sold Waldo, it had first gear replaced under warranty with the 1997 part.
BTW, Rufus (130,000 miles) has the original transmission (build date 3/96) and is as smooth as silk.
