All. I am out shopping now for a 993TT and have spoken to a couple of guys about their car(s). Could you please offer an opinion and information to the technical nuances to each model year 96 vs 97 - and why one car may be differant or more desirable than the other..and should weigh into my decision process? thx.

meh, the 96 is cheaper, the 97 has some tsbs done (like the brake pump quiet down tsb) and has a stronger transmission input shaft.
In my opinion, you find the car you want, 96 or 97 and buy it. The differences are not major enough to avoid a 96 you happen to like.

Color, options, condition, history, maintenance, mods/upgrades, seller, price and etc should guide your purchase decision. The '96 vs '97 debate is on the list, but pretty far down.
