Default Redline while resetting readiness codes

I hope someone can help me. I had a CEL which was reset and I have been using the BMW cycle to reset the readiness codes. I did this twice without issue. The last 2 times I did the drive cycle (2:15 idle, 3:15 between 20-30 mph, 15 min 40-60) when I came off the highway after the 15 minutes at 40-60 mph, and I put the car in neutral to drift to the stop at the end, the engine starts revving wildly to redline and slightly beyond 7250 rpm. I immediately put it in gear to bring the engine speed back down. Last time it did this a second time as soon as I put in the clutch. Today only a single episode of wild revving. I at first thought maybe my carpet had slipped but no such luck and the only time this occurs is when I drive the readiness reset cycle.
Do I need an exorcism? What is going on?
Thanks in advance,
Eric

Were you in cruise control? I bet you were. This is in your Owner's Manual, too.

If in cc, and you depress the clutch, and not shift into gear, the revs are going to jump up......WAY up.

Also, you should re-think your driving style, and not take the car out of gear to slow down, and coast in neutral. This limits your ability to respond, in an emergency, among other issues.

And what are the codes you are seeing?

Thanks for the quick reply. This morning I was in cruise control, D'oh! Didn't think of that, obviously. I don't think I was the last time but cannot remember. I only drift into a stop if there is no one else around as in this morning at 5:30a. Thanks for the link, never would have searched for that.
I owe you one!
