Question Best routing for Trickle Charger.

Haven't noted anyone trying this before so I finally took wire of a bit lighter gauge than my CTEK unit and shut it in the door in various locations. Seems the most play/space/sliding is by the mirror about 1 1/2" below the side window trim, where the gap curves down and forward. It was the only spot I found that did not put a lot of pressure on the wire.

Earth to ronnie ... doubt very much the wire notices any pressure on it. I say this having run it out the front of the hood opening for, oh, ten years or more on these cars.

I close my hood on my battery tender(cheap on ebay)but I've always wanted to run up to gas door, that would be pretty slick.

I just put mine though the window and leave a little crack open (or leave the window wide open with a cloth on draped over the door so the wire doesn't hit/rub the paint).

FYI. Porsche put a notch at the bottom of the door on the 996/986. They stopped this with the 997/987 series.

Does that mean one can charge via cig lighter power socket in this car or is your battery in the passenger seat :-)

yup, I believe all Porsches - I can do this in my Cayenne too and the trickle charger Porsche sells uses the cig lighter socket.

Also if you want a power (non switched) source for some accessory, the wiring to the cig lighter socket is a good place to use.

Plugged in the cig lighter, out thru the window into the socket. Done it for years and have left the car in this state for weeks with out any issues.

I also use the Porsche cig lighter trickle charger. Closing the door on the wire hasn't shown any ill effect to date, but....

Here is my proceedure, which I follow religiously:
1. Open door.
2. Plug into cigarette lighter.
3. Close door.
4.(Optional) Stare at the beautiful lines of the car for 5 minutes.

It's settled. My mind is working tirelessly, in the background, resolving these complex issues—all without me even realizing it...

You guys have it all wrong. The correct way is to drive it enough so you don't need to trickle charge it.
