993 turbo noise and boost
I just has some serious work done at my local dealer and changed out many parts:
Alternator Fan Belt - Outer With Tiptronic*
Alternator Fan Belt - Inner 10x757*
OIL PUMP*
**6 Pistons & 6 Cylinder
*FUEL INJ LINE*
*Head Gasket Set*
Porsche Valve Adjusting Screw
1 * *Rod Bearing Set (Standard) * * **
1 * *Main Bearing Set (Standard) * * **
1 * *Piston Ring Set * * * * **
12 * *Connecting Rod Bolts * * **
12 * *Connecting Rod Nuts * * **
9 * *Flywheel Bolts * * * * *
6 * *Valve Guides (Exhaust) * * **
6 * *Valve Guides (Intake) * * **
1 * *Chain Rail - Right Straight * * **
1 * *Chain Rail - Left Straight * * **
2 * *Chain Rail - Curved * * * * *
1 * *Case Gasket Set (Lower) * * **
1 * *Head Gasket Set (Upper) * * **
2 * *Timing Chains - Endless * * **
2 * *Intermediate Shaft Bearings - Large * *
2 * *Intermediate Shaft Bearings - Small *
That was the good news!
The bad news is my car now has 2 problems:
The turbo boost reads either .3 or .8, and even at idle it stays at .8
There is a clicking noise that is continuous. I have isolated the source to the lower left side of the engine. I'm a novice, but the speed of clicking sounds like the timing chain. I can feel tapping when I touch the bodywork in the engine bay left side.
My dealer said all these issues will sort themselves out after the break-in miles are completed.
Any insights are very appreciated

I would guess that the boost sending unit is not working correctly/loose/corroded giving you those inconsistent readings.
Don't see that the hydraulic lifters are on your list. Suspect one is collapsed. If they were replaced, may not have been soaked in oil long enough prior to installing. It may pump up and improve once 'broken' in. Or may not. Does the noise improve when the oil is hot/engine warm? Feeling the tapping on the body work doesn't sound good, don't think that should occur just with collapsed lifters.
not sure I'm being helpful.

Probably not related, but be aware that the alternator belt is a different size on the TT vs NA. A well respected speed shop put the wrong one on mine and it quickly burned out the alternator.

Thx Basal Skull, I think you AR right re the boost readings. Anything I can check/ change out myself?
The noise does not improve with running temperature at normal level. It may get better at higher revs, but it could be that the engine noise is just drowning it out.

Hi Sam. I didn't notice anything until the belt blew about 20 minutes after leaving the shop. Burned out the shaft (?) on the alternator. The shop, after a quick investigation, admitted the error, explained the belt difference and changed out the alternator. I noticed no noises prior to the event. Good luck getting yours sorted out.

mother of god, new jugs and pistons. Thats gotta sting a bit.
As basal noted, the sender is on the drivers side of the intake. Once the blower motor is removed, its not that hard to get to.
As for your clicking, it sounds like lifters to me although it surprises me that they were not replaced, or maybe they were.
If they were, and were not properly bled, you may have the noise for a bit.
how many miles you put on it since the work.
