The 993 has abd, thats about it. Ive seen it come on once on my car...in gravel.

The 930 has a ****ty powerband. While it may be thrilling, its also pretty much useless.

The 993, imho, takes whats good about the 930/964 (the size, the aircooled engine, the solid construction, etc.) and leaves the peaky powerband, antiquated suspension, and 5 speed gearbox.
I was thinking awd, tt,abs, more modern electronics, etc.
My experience:
Thrilling:930s
Fast, really fast, numb: 997.2tts

On the weekends I find myself reaching for the 930 keys 90% of the time.

To find a very good lowmiles 930 is very hard while to find a very good 993TT is easier, the 964 T 3,3 is a compromise (heavyer then a 930 and powerless then a 993 TT) different story (and price) is the 964 T 3,6
get both(930 T and 993 TT) if you can and you will be happy!

i will say though, that my friend's dad has a 965 and a 993TT and the likes the older one better. i wonder if that will change when he gets his 89 930 slantnose in the near future.

different strokes for different folks so it will be best that you go on a test drive yourself.
Oh hell, don't get me wrong, I'd love a 930...but in addition to my 993TT, not in replacement of it. The 930s are fun for the pure shock of having no power, and then having 280bhp. However, I tend to think that is limited to 2 weekends a month.

there is certainly room for preference, but just like the 996 is a better car than a 993, and a 997 is a better car than a 996, I think the 993tt is a better car than the 964T/965.

Yes and no Imho. The awd is nice to have and makes the car more usable for more than just sunny weather weekend cruises. I'd have no problem removing it. Twin turbos are nice to have to me. The peaky powerband is fun, but I'm not a guy who drives around at 4000rpm+ all the time, so its nice to have some grunt in every day situations.

I guess the electronics are more modern, but I don't really consider that to affect the driving experience. Same with ABS. If you are regularly invoking abs on dry roads on the street, you may need to consider whether what you're doing is safe.

I'll be honest. Even though the powerband is fun, a stock or mildly modified 930 is just too slow to be thrilling for me.

My 930... I miss her. I own a 996TT now but looking to get a 993TT. Best of both worlds. Power and good working A/C... my 930 sucked for that.

Enjoy,

Agree somewhat, I've never hit the ABS on the street to be clear.
The 930 is fun, as a 964 would be as well. Either is completely different than a awd tt, which I think the op is after.
Anytime I think 280hp ain't I just hop in the 530hp tts .......now that's enough hp!
The tts has twice as much hp, but the 930 is twice the fun.
I think the op would be happier in a 930/964.

I guess the OP just needs to drive both to see.

I tend to like the fact that the 993TT, while still fairly raw, can be used, and used hard, under any conditions.

Has anyone here disconnected the front wheels from the drive system in their 993TT?

There are at least half a dozen others on here that I can think of as well. Most GT2 conversions are running in 2WD mode. Most of us have done more than just disconnect the AWD components, however.

Yes, I understand. My serious track days are over though I may go out here or there when invited. But fundamentally this is to be a street car. Paradoxically I really don't feel a street Porsche needs much more than 400 HP (this from a guy who was running a 7-CUP). At 400 HP you can quickly violate the Laws of Physics and man. What I'd like to "add" is lightness and agility. Feel. Porsche has never made a "great" AWD system in this regard.

So, if AWD can be disconnected, can "parts" be removed? Does it feel more C2S-like?

Sorry if I seem a nube... but in this Universe I am...

You can just disconnect the front driveshaft and get a feel for what it's like. Or you can disconnect and remove all the parts. Some adjustments need to be made to the shifter mechanism if you do this. I've never driven a C2S, but I'd guess option #1 would feel similar, but heavier in the front as the AWD components are still there. Option #2 should feel more like a C2S on steroids. On a very personal note, I don't think I ever would have done this had blackie still been a street car. YRMV

That's why I think you should bypass the awd 993 altogether and just go with the 965, etc.

Before we even get into that, there's this crew ripping rides all along the beach. Alright? Now in the back of a trim shop on urvine, if somebody was to pay a little visit this weekend, they might find two turbos and a 911 slope.
