Ex Turbo S owner. 
The rear ducts are cosmetic only. They lead to the rear inner guard liner !
They were a cosmetic balance for the front air vents [which also lead no where]
....and a historic styling cue from the 959
Given it was a "last of, parts bin" model, there was no new engineering to justify the need for the side ducts.
