See post #39, where bb993tt posted a link to a PPI procedure used by "Real Mean Garage" In Sunnyvale, California. Bob Grigsby, I think. They do a compression test, and then only if suspicious, do they do a leak down. This shop is considered tops in the bay area. That is why it might be interesting to get their take on your conflicting numbers. I will add that I have the highest regard for the guys who did your PPI at Schneider AutoHaus.
Thanks Steve, I did go to their site and I will call them. My dilemma is I don't understand how the leak down number could be so awful with good compression numbers. I'm off to the phone before they close for the weekend.....Chris
I just called RMG. They said a bit of carbon can become dislodged with the removal of the spark plug and get between valve and seat if the piston wasn't perfectly tdc. When I told them who did the PPI they doubted that such a mistake was made, but it might be worthnwhile to run the car and retest the offending cylinder. I then called the owner, a
Prince IMO, who said he had ready told them to remove the engine and make the necessary repairs. At this point I'm thinking Checker Marathon just to make it stop!....Chris
If the rest of the car was clean, I would be inclined to drive the crap out of it, ala Italian Tune-Up and retest that one cylinder. Or, have the current owner do it then ship the car if the leak down results improve.
+1. No expert but find it odd such a low mile car could have this problem?
Not if it was valve guide related. The material the originals were made with had a durability factor of something like, say, chocolate. Saved Porsche a few dmarks/car, however.
