Paint or Powdercoat?

Hi gang,
I'm looking to refinish a set of wheels I have, and wondered which way some of you have gone. I feel like I have 3 options:
1) Paint with clearcoat (easiest for me to do by far)
2) Basecoat with a powdercoated clear (which I'm not sure will actually work, because don't you have to have bare metal for powdercoat to adhere?)
3) Straight powdercoat (colors are pretty limited, so I'm not in love with this idea.
Anybody been through this conundrum lately?
Thanks!

I do paint and powercoat on the parts we machine. Powder (done right) is a lot tougher. You wont be able to powdercoat over paint as it then has to go to the oven. (400 degrees).
See the link below I use them exclusively for my ceramic coatings and all of the powder. 6500+ colors..got to be one you like![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

What about anodizing? I've thought of anodizing a set of aluminium wheels dark but I read somewhere that some wheel manufaturers claim that this is not good for the alloy though..

What I've since found out is that for the **** retent among us, paint is really the only way to go. It's not (easily) possible to color match factory finishes with powdercoat. On basic colors, or a color you find that you really like, it works great.
But if you're going to something very specific, it's not really an option. The other issue is that touch ups are much harder to do with powdercoating if the wife runs the car into a curb
That being said, if I could find the exact match for what I wanted in a powdercoat, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

And if its silver then match wont be a problem. Red-orange can be tougher.
If you do take them in for powdercoat ask about the paint removal. If they do a lot of industrial coating they might just get 200psi of gravel shot on them

Its fast but not good for "nice" stuff. make sure its a chemical strip and or glass beads..soda blast is great too.
