I just bought a nice set of OEM 993 hollow spoke turbo twist wheels. They were listed very accurately as good to fair condition. They had no curb rash, no dents, chips or damage to lips. When the seller had the tires removed prior to shipping, the tire shop damaged one of the rims with a wrench leaving a dine size chip. The sell called me and told me what happened. The tire shop agreed to pay for the damage. I had the seller ship the wheels out.
I took the damaged wheel to Wheel Enhancement in Culver City. They told me that to fix it correctly they would need to refinish the entire wheel. Their cost was $230 for the one wheel.
Considering the wheels were in good to fair condition and one was going to be refinished, I decided to do all four. That would be another $690, or a total of $920, at Wheel Enhancement.
I scoured the net and figured out that Wheels America, http://www.wheelsamerica.com/, was the way to go. I took all four wheels in and they powder coated them, backs and front, for $400. They came out great. They look new. Their operation runs 5 days a week 24 hours a day. As a result, they have a 24 hour turn around.
I can’t recommend them highly enough.

The powdercoating process on these wheels is a pretty simple one since nothing needs to be masked. Essentially any rough spot are made smooth, then the wheels are media blasted, an even coat of colored powdercoat sprayed on and in the oven it goes for a tough hard shell enamel finish.
There's a shop near me that is pretty reasonably priced that also does gold and chrome plating as well as anodizing and powdercoating. I did a set of wheels for a 69 Landrover SeriesII for a couple of hundred bucks.

Good info but beware as I think they are a franchise like many companies. I suspect most are pretty good but the one on the corner near my office is full of hooligans out standing around and smoking pot (medicinal perhaps?) and trucks that are pretty well beat. If this is how their business looks from the outside, I'd think twice about doing business with them.
Like I said, I'm sure the one near me is the exception. Glad you had a great experience!

What IS the going rate? Had a mom-and-pop shop here in Walnut Creek do my 996 Turbo wheels last year for about $510 w/ tax. Price was ~$100 more as they said they had to hand strip the wheels. Supposedly they were installing better equipment to allow machine stripping, and going forward the price would be their standard ~$100 wheel.

~$100 seems pretty normal for standard colors on a clean wheel. I had a pretty bad experience with one of the wheelsamerica establishments in Houston, TX. They are definitely not all the same.
