However, the oil from the K&N filter can contaminate the MAF wire and lead to issues, such as the 1140 CEL code. All of this is purely speculation, but in fact replacing the K&N with the paper filter has cured my 1140 code issue.
I wouldn't put a K&N on a lawn mower. I'm kinda shocked Ruf likes them honestly. The reason they flow better is because they filter worse...count me out. Then add in the CEL issues with oiled filters and I'm totally out.

I get the P1140 every few months it seems. Is it worth chasing down?

Yes, I think so. Do the easy stuff first like making sure you have an OEM air filter, proper belts and shims, cruise control working properly. Might need a new MAF sensor. The sensor is easy to do, just an expensive part. About $500.

Okay. Well it only occasionally goes off at light throttle. Cars had a complete once over for all those items but it some kind of slight intake leak (smoke test) or the MAF is on it's way out. I can't get it to go off with WOT runs though. Cruise control was broken - now fixed.

The K&N's come from the manufacturer with a bit much of the oil. This is to assure it's an adequate amount once it's purchased and installed. If you buy one just place a couple of paper towels on it and in the folds for a few hours. Any excess will be absorbed and prevent problems with MAF. When you clean it and re-oil it, you have to oil it slowly and in thin layers. If it's saturated you can see it run down and puddle towards bottom when you stand it on an end. If this is the case you have WAY to much. Most MAF issues can be resolved if you clean it with a proper MAF cleaner. The thin element is fragile and easily damaged so be carefull. As long as it's intact it should work properly. As per performance gains the K&N type free flowing filter are a proven superior filter to a paper element.

Default No HTwo O , back using new name?

I started a post on the 993 forum with the above title, needless to say it turned into a smear fest.

"LexVan joined just a few months after No HTwo O was banned, from same area, all post sound the same as No HTwo O's?
Does anyone know this to be just a coincidence, this is No HTwo O's Car? (pic), What's LexVan's car? A Few of us think it's weird, but if I'm Wrong, I'll stand corrected, don't what us to be made a foolish here"

I received an E Mail this morning from a reputable user,Maybe he'll chime in, I think its time to find out, if true, what next? if not Fine.

"I think LexVan is No Htwo o. Check the post with the gulf blue C4S and some other cars from a recent PCA event. He took a bunch of pictures and posted them. THen there was a thread by another user, also from the same event with lots of pics. Believe it or not, the pictures in the thread posted by the other user showed no Htwo S arena red turbo with "NO Htwo O" license plate. It's very obvious that it was LexVans car although he did leave that car out in his own thread. Do a search about that. I also posted in that thread asking if it was his car but he told me there were 100 PCA members there and probably a few RLers as well. He said he knew the car but it wasn't his. Yet he posts on a 993 forum and leaves out pictures of a 993 from that event??? I would be behind you if you want to report this"

For anyone with a "benign" 1140 code (happens at very low throttle, everything else checks out), talk to Todd Knighten at Protomotive for a good technical analysis and possible simple solution.

I did a search and couldn't find his contact of shop info unless it's this:

http://www.protomotive.com/contact.html

I had a throttle switch replaced which seemed to make my p1140 go away for a few months (longest period anyway) and passed CA "star" smog easily. Part # 94460611601 - Throttle switch.

For the sake of discussion I thought I would share the "freeze frame" info of when the p1140 occurred and some questions.

RPM - 2608
Calc. Engine Load - 7.1%
Coolant - 264F (oil temp?)

Then this is where it gets interesting:

Short term fuel trim Bank 1 - 2.3%
Short term fuel trim Bank 2 - -0.8% (negative)
Long term fuel trim Bank 1 - 0.0%
Long term fuel trim Bank 2 - 7.0% (WTF is up with this?)

Speed - 75mph
Fuel Sys 1&2 loops - closed

FWIW when I was using too thin of oil I would get smoke out the left exhaust.

Always a lot of curiosity and a little paranoia with my car.

My 1140 code was cured with a new throttle position sensor. The irony was that I'd recently replaced all the sensors but the new bosch part was faulty, I've not seen the code since replacement.

my 993 TT got check engine light as well and was equiped with "green" filter .

"geen filter" was quite dark, that why i removed it and replace by OEM at the time mechanics clear off "check engine"

not appears anymore over the 20 000km done since
