I know I can always count on a dedicated group of people to help out! So I looked at my service records and discovered that when I purchased the car with 19K miles on it I had the Accumulator replaced among other small service items as the car had been in a collection and not driven often. This leak did not exist until a couple months ago with now about 30k miles on the car. Does appear to be the Slave Cylinder now creating the problem. BIG labor charge. The part is "cheap" but might be as much as $1500+ to get it replaced. (I live in the SF bay area and labor is Minimum $110-125/hr for a good Porsche wrench. I was advised to take a small syringe and remove some fluid from the front resivoir and put it into the rear one then take a sharpie and mark the level at the front and watch how fast it transfers from rear back to front. If it's really slow I can watch it for awhile until I decide to bite the bullet and fork out the cash to replace the slave.. Ugh... Thanks for all the comments!

The 997 part number is correct. The original 993 part number was replaced by a 996 part number, and has now been updated to a 997 part number.

Take it from me and others, if you replace one (accumulator or slave) do the other while already in there. I replaced only my accumulator the first go around and six months later I was back in replacing the slave... and accumulator again. No Htwo O is correct on parts pricing, it was just 3 weeks ago that I ordered the parts from Sunset and had my wrench perform the labor. By the way, per the books suggested labor time, it shouldn't take any more than 3.5 hours total. Including a $20 fluid replacement charge, my labor bill excluding tax came to about $405. (@$110 per hr labor rate)

noob question - which is the clutch as in the slave cylinder reservoir in the front compartment? Is it the big white squarish container on the right or the small cylindrical one just in front of that?

My mechanic asked me to check my Slave cyl. and take a bit of fluid out of the reservoir to see if it fills up.

I'm waiting for a flight in an airport in California right now so can't verify but that location for the reservoir doesn't look right, and have never seen a metal tag in that area underneath before.

Can you guys do a GT3 slave conversion like the 996 and 997 guys do? My car is on it's 2nd accumulator and 2nd slave- seems like the best option is to do the GT3 conversion, which does away with the power assisted clutch...

The 993 NA cars use a non-assisted clutch, so that may be a more straightforward conversion. I will say, however, that with the clamping force required for a turbo clutch, you will find it quite hard to depress.
