Default Ignition Light- Bulb Burnt Out?

From the recent post about the differences between the '96 and '97 Turbos, I learned that I have an ignition light.

I always wondered what the little black rubber grommet was for when I was conditioning the leather dash and waxing the carbon fiber. Only problem is, the bulb must be burnt out because it does not illuminate.

When should it light? When the doors open? When the headlights are on?

Is the bulb serviceable with out taking the dash apart? How? Where do I get a new bulb?

Thanks.

I don't have one, but i figure it lights up when you open the doors. I wouldn't think it would be on when the headlights are on, as that might be distracting.

I'd say gently pry the grommet off the dash, and the bulb will be reachable.

bulb should cross to a sylvania part number at any parts store, or you could just grab one at the dealer for a few bucks.

According to the Parts department at Sunset:

light bulb part # 900-631-132-90
$1.17

But, I have to access the back of the dash.

Prolly the easiest way to get there is to remove the fuel gauge.

Removing the gauge is not a big deal at all.

Maybe, I'll order the bulb, and let my mechanic do this in the spring. Thanks, Oliver!

You're not kidding! Plus, I try to be careful as not to scratch up the carbon fiber dash and rosette with the key, while doing a Ray Charles impression.

Do you have the key with the light in it?

That does help a little bit.

Yes, but they don't work too well.
