Question What else should I get done?

Hi Guys. I'm getting my weeping valve gaskets replaced and valve covers checked for warping. At the same time I'll get the oil/filters and plugs changed. Anything else I should get 'em to do while they're in there? Also, how much time should this take? I just turned over 10,000 miles so I figure most other stuff should be good to go......

Replace fuel filter?
Change belts?
Change trans fluid?
Flush brake fluid?
Replace dist. cap?
Replace engine air filter?
Replace cabin (2) filters?
Do the 996TT oil line check valves?
Run a tank-full of fuel with a Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner , prior to the oil change.

Next, very important..

Cylinder head temp sensor> #3 cylinder

Knock sensors

New MAF

Thottle position sensors are getting a little worn

Great list of things to do - with mine going in the shop for a top end rebuild I am very interested in what the group was to say on this topic.

that seems a bit excessive on such a low mileage car, no?

It is father time vs miles. A garage queen can have accelerated wear with gaskets and sensors.

Please remember that Porsche had a MAJOR wiring harness recall very early on. Do you think that they changed out the wire loom to the sensor such as the cylinder temp sensor. I would bet you that every 8 out of 10 993TT have brittle and broken air pump wiring harness that connect to the "replaced engine harness"

Knock sensor really need to be addressed. I wouldn't tear the engine out for just the knock sensors. But if one is doing a major reseal, it might be cheaper in the long run to remove the engine and bring it up to date.

Ronnie: I would only let Brent work on it. He will be a great guy to tell you exactly what needs doing without going overboard.

I'm using Courtney Walsh, Glenn. He's worked on these cars since they came out and has a lot of the 993tt business. I've found him pretty good at sorting through "laundry lists"......and he lives a couple of blocks from me so he can take the car in! However, I appreciate all of the input from the guys on this forum. I'll document this advice and run it by him.

Sounds like an excellent plan. There has been a lot of great input here and I will double check with Brent against the list of ideas presented here when I take mine in probably in the spring.

Kevin's advice is something I too beleive in, when warranted.

Sensors that in the past have been solid are starting to show their age, as these cars age. The ECU does to some extent depend upon a timely sensor response and if some sensors are sluggish to respond, but in the end still show they function, may not be good enough to satisfy the ECU.

TPS switches do wear and can give spotty feedback. Also I've noticed more folks are starting to experience random misfire codes that typical tune-up parts are not solving. Naturally we know the worn DMF's are a common culprit but for those who gone that far without resolution to the misfire, I am beginning to think worn or faulty knock sensors may start playing a role in this issue.

It sounds like replacing the knock-sensors are an "engine-out" job? How much are those sensors?

they can be done with the lump in the car, just have to remove just about everything intake and SAI related.
