Default lets talk exhaust studs...again

so as predicted by some of you, I snapped of 4 of 8 studs. One is snapped off far enough out that I should be able to get it out with vice grips. The other three are buried nicely in there.

Aside from just drilling them out, you guys have any ideas?

Whats to stop me from simply drilling the hole out, inserting a nut and a bolt, and double nuttin' the sumbitch?

any advice is appreciated as usual.

thanks.

Feel free to take your turbochargers off and I'll EDM them out for you.

If you bolt them the backside of the turbine housing is not flat. They will loosen up> constantly. Your car will sound like a VW bug with it's heads lifting off.

Anybody know what the thread size (i'm assuming 8mm fine) and pitch are?

Thanks.

Kevin, I'd love to send the turbos out to you for an EDM and some hybriding, but thats not in the cards right now.

welp, minor success here.

I drilled one stud out until it was basically a shell. Then I pushed it out from the back with a bolt I threaded in from the back. Threads are intact.

I have two studs that are sticking out by about .5", so I doused them in pb blaster, and intend to give them hell with a propane torch in the next few days.

since I seem to be alone here, I'll add some input to myself.

The studs are 8mm by 1.25 fine pitch.

If you snap a stud off with at least a little sticking out, what you need is the Lisle bolt/stud removal tool. Its expensive as a bitch at $40, but it got these two studs out with basically zero effort. Never before have I seen a tool work that well.

I have to tap the one hole I buggered, and then i should be good to go.

Thanks.

good progress. Tap worked great, all the studs are in, cat pipes are on (could those silicone hoses be any shorter btw)

Would have had it buttoned up tonight, if it wasn't for a rubber mounting from the intercooler falling of and landing, you guessed it, perfectly under the pullies, which seems to be where everything you ever drop ends up and is completely inaccessible.

Anyway, should be good to go tomorrow.

Oliver.... Can't thank you enough for taking the lead on this. Let us know how it sounds and the performance changes.
