Default Thermostat Questions

When our thermostats open, do they ever partially re-close during a long drive on a very cool morning at highway speeds?

Yo creo que sí.
You can see the temperature gauge reacting to the thermostat opening and closing.

Ding, ding, ding! Winner, winner, chicken dinner. That's exactly what I have been seeing the past couple weeks, as the weather has turn in the midwest. Thought I was seeing things.

It's pretty cool to see the reactivity of the thermostat.

It's also pretty amazing to see the narrow temp range our cars run, when considering the huge temperature gradient they are exposed to. What I mean by that is I have run the car when it was -2 this winter (clear sunny day, no snow and no salt) and +100 with high humidity this summer, on the highway just cruising, the oil temp was pretty similar.

yup, in cold weather the oil temp stays right below the thermostats opening temp.

Both water (in other cars) and oil thermostats are constantly opening and closing to regulate temps.
