Default 996 GT2 vs. 993 Twin turbo

Guys,

With regard to the "fun factor' when driving, etc. what do you think? I have a 996 GT2 and she is awsome.

I've owned 993's but never a turbo. I love the lines, compactness, build quality, etc. of the older cars and starting to search for a low mileage blk/blk, stock example.

Any and all feedback is appreciated.

Thanks.

993 will have more feel, 996 GT2 is way faster.

They are different enough that you could basically have both.

When you combine the classic porsche look, the classic interior, and the feel of the 993, I prefer the 993, but a 996 GT2 is a great car.

can't go wrong either way.

The downside of the newer platform is they feel so stable at speed you have to push it harder to get the same thrill. The 993tt has just enough power (with mods) to make for a "fun" combination at reasonable speeds.

I love em both.

I've driven both....993TT is miles easier to drive and drive quickly. May feel a bit soft in comparo, but its actually faster to drive around the bumpy hills here in SoCal. GT2 is so stiffly sprung it just bounces all over....hard to bakes or turn w/the front wheels in the air. Very quick car though, but for a daily or serious fun you can get out of not soaked in sweat, I'd go w/a 993 or 996 turbo....

Don't get me wrong, I love the RWD only cars...I build one and its a beast...

Very different beasts. GT2 is fast and can be made very very fast for very little. 993tt is the opposite in that regard however it makes up for it in driving experience & looks imo.

If given the choice to live with a stock GT2 and stock 993tt I would go with the 993tt. Thats just me

I own both. My 996 GT2 has some suspension work and ECU upgrade. Very quick and fun to drive. My 993TT has a suspension but otherwise stock. It is not as quick but equally fun to drive. The quality of the 993TT is far better. There is no way you would want to own a 14 year old 996 GT2, but owning a 14 year old 993TT is a no brainer.

Not sure if on topic or not, but I took my 91 year old mom to a family reunion yesterday in my Andial 3.8 993tt with 140K miles. It was about 450 miles round trip in 1 day and we both enjoyed it. I also go pretty good at the track about twice a month and drive about 400 miles one way to get there. I'm not sure this combo would work with a GT2.

I'm not sure why you would say that. Aside from an admittedly harsh ride, the 996 GT2 has better AC, a quieter arguably more comfortable interior, and can easily be thrashed at the track without fear.

I think one key mention above is what would the car be like at the same age. 14yr old 993 vs a 14yr old wasserpumper. While I think the GT2 is supercar material, for the long run I feel I would prefer the 993 line of cars.

I don't really see the logic behind that.

The choice is between a 5 year old gt2 and a 14 year old 993TT. When the GT2 hits 14, the 993TT will be 23. What will be more desireable at that point is a crapshoot, although I lean towards the 993.

that said, they will never be the same age, so why does that matter?

My example is based on owning a 14 year old car today. Would you like to own a 14 year old Ferrari or Lamborghini today? When a 996 GT2 turns 14, there will be few if any takers. Not to mention a 996 GT2 if far more rare than a 993TT and can barely trade at the price of a decent 993TT today. That is why I own one. Cheap, Good, and Fast. Tough combo to beat.

I also own a 1987 911T so that is 23 years old and still an amazing car that many people would like to own over a GT2. But you are right QC the 993 is timeless. Pic of my GT2 for giggles

I guess you've missed my point, Y65MPH expanded on it exactly.

I know they will never be the same age but it will be possible at some point to own a GT2 at 14 years of age. My point was only about how well do we think the GT2 will age.

I personally think they will age pretty well. The design is no where near as timeless, but it offers incredible performance at a good price. I think the drivetrain will hold up fine.

I think the 996 line will eventually recover in value a little. They are getting beaten up pretty bad right now.
