NJMP Thunderbolt Track Day

The little orange 68 is my newest addition to the family. I invited my mechanic down to shake it out with me. Its LOUD for a little 2.2l thanks to the megaphones - cant wait to start vintage racing it. Its the reason I'm considering sale of the tt.
It was my first track event witht the RWD turbo though. The car felt quicker everywhere, surprisingly turn in felt largely the same, although it did require me to respect the throttle a bit more at track out. I have a sturdy Guard LSD, and even with 315 Hoosier R6's it still wants to and will step out if you mash the throttle in 3rd. A little pedal modulation or opposite lock reels it right back in. It is one heck of a machine, I couldnt believe how much it pulled on the lambo down the front straight.
I knew the guy saw me coming and was going to try to keep distance and anticipated the overcooking T-1. Setting up the pass through the chicane is simple because EVERYONE turns in early going into the back straight. While they are still reeling it in at track out, I am flat to the floor on full boost in 3rd, already having a run on the inside down on the straight. More importantly I felt the need to express a little Porsche pride and made it a point of doing laps around the 11years newer lambo all day.

I might miss it within a yr, I would likely miss it more in 10 years from now when these things are regularly trading back over 100g. Problem with the car is I know what it is capable of and even if I drive it at 3/10ths on the street I will go to jail. Beyond that it is sprung a bit too stiff (despite what you see from the underside camera view, that suspenstion travel is occurring with PSS9's re-valved w 1000lb springs) and beefy sways. With the straight pipes, the decible level is enough to disrupt peace in the next zip code. Therefore it sits in the garage until I track days, which, if I am lucky, is 15-20 days a season (I'll be up to 5 on sunday). So I am trying to be realistic about the usefulness, value, the fun factor it provides, and weigh that against the fact that I now have 2 track cars - one which I will start vintage racing this year. But I digress....
