Dan, it was the drivers side rear tyre that let go and it happened just under the bridge on Con Rod Straight at around 240 - 260km/h! Luckily I was pointing in astraight line and was able to slow the car without brakes! My main concern is that this is the fastest part of the circuit and guys come over the rise and see you and pull in behind for the draught.......that means their closing speed on me would have been anywhere up to 160km/h or 100mph! I couldnt touch the brakes so they didnt see my brake lights and I was very concerned for a while........everyone drove brilliantly and no harm-no foul!
Then began the chase for new tyres, get em fitted and then when I did, I heard awful noises coming from underneath the rear......turned out to be only a tyre rubbing on a bracket in the wheel arch, but it scared the crap outta me and I missed the last dry session chasing the noise. Finally got out and as I did, it started to rain!..............still the most fun I have ever had. I have some video of overtaking the GT1 on Mountain Straight......will try to load it later

Those videos were great, thanks for that.
It would be really great to drive that circuit, but even if I did, with my record on the track a mini would have been faster!
It certainly looks like you guys had a great time and It proves how damn fast a 14 year old car still is.
Cheers

Hi,

I drove up from Melbourne with Nick T in his 997 GT3. It was the best track time I have ever had. We made a few videos, at the end of the one below confidence nearly overtakes ability...

As previously mentioned, being able to see a GT1 and the 935 Race Car up close and talk to Klaus Bischof, the Porsch Museum director, just made a brillant weekend even better.

A big thanks to Porsche Australia for this, it was extremely well run and excellent value.

David, we met at lunch on the last day - I recall Nick is the architect? I enjoyed your video. You had a real "tank slapper" going on there on the Pit Straight. It's the second or third episode of oversteer that gets you! If Nick was watching, he must have been anxious! Glad to see the GT3 stayed on the track.

Q - nice to hear from you. I'd thought I'd heard you were off on an extended holiday.

Hi Malcom,

Yes I was good to meet you, everyone was very friendly at the event. Nick is the architect; I showed him the video straight after it happened. He was as glad as I was that only my ego was damaged. I was a lot more careful putting down the power after that!
