looking to purchase a tt

Some advice:
1) You must be very patient
2) You must get a PPI
3) Pay cash
4) Minimum 10% of the purchase price, in cash, in a bank account, for sorting out after the purchase and unplanned maintenance ($12-15K is really best to protect against being "car poor")
I would like to add to my own list:
5) Do not purchase a 993 Turbo unless you know an excellent & reputable air-cooled mechanic. Just like having a good doctor, you need to have a good mechanic in your hip pocket. Or, you need to be an expert DIY'er. I researched mechanics in my home town as much as I searched out potential cars to purchase.

The car local was sold before I could move on it. Weird thing is I was speaking with a guy in Connecticut about one of his cars and mentioned I was looking at local car and the next day the dealership called to tell me a guy from Connecticut bought the car?. Sense then a couple of other cars have come on the market so I'm still looking. I should have it sorted out and make a decision by the end of the month. There are a couple of 3.8l cars out there going for near the same price as low mileage stock. This has me thinking.

I've seen the car at NWI. I agree with the other poster that they are a bit of a pain. That said, the car is pretty darn nice. Its had some mods done too it. IE, the intercooler (promotive?) and the exhaust. It sounds great. We passed on this car because they wouldn't let us drive it. Shame, since that left a sour taste in our mouth as we would have probably bought it had the PPI checked out but we didn't get that far. You're probably lucky the other car sold since oil in the intercooler is a bad sign. Typically this is a sign of an improper oil filter (mahle) being used. Check out Kevin's write up at the top of this forum regarding the 993 turbos and oil filters. The more information have have going into your purchase the better off you will be. Back to the NWI car... When they took us out (riding shotgun) the car had a CEL on. While this could be a false positive and need a reset its something to have thoroughly checked out by a thorough PPI. Also, if you plan on traveling to see the car definitely get them to agree in writing that you can drive the car. We're on our 15th Porsche and they wouldn't let us drive it... Stupid if you ask me. I've never not been allowed to test drive a car, some over twice the cost of this one, so that had us walking out the door before we even went for the test ride. Anyhow, that said its a nice car, heavily optioned and some nice mods. Unfortunately when we looked they weren't interested in budging off the price. That was at least 6 months ago so maybe that's changed. Good luck with your hunt. There is another TT for sale locally that I will post in another post. Not your color but its a nice car too. If you're into green.

While I understand that test driving a car may be important to some I did not allow anyone to drive my car unless they put a deposit on it. I never had a problem with that and it was sold in less than one week. It is one way to get rid of test pilots.
