Default looking to purchase a tt

I'm newbie looking to purchase a 96 black on black tt. I found 2 cars in my price range. This one is local and seems to be in great shape with some upgrades such as strut bar, lowered suspension, exhaust, rims. The paint needs a good detailing but otherwise in good shape. The big ding for me is an accident reported on the carfax and very few records for the car.No records related to the accident. The salesman told me that the accident was a minor door panel repair? here's the link
http://www.porscheaustin.com/used/Po...c022ad7fc7.htm

The second car also has some upgrades such as lowered suspension, exhaust, bigger intercooler and protech dme. This car seems to be in great shape as well. With a clean carfax. Here's the link
http://www.nwicars.com/view_vehicle.htm?vehicle_id=70

If anyone knows these cars and can provide additional info that would be great.

I have yet to decide which one to move forward with but the accident on the first car has me concerned. How much does the value drop because of the accident (minor) Of course I will as much investigating prior to a PPI
Thanks

Once looked at the car from Northwest Investments.....it's on consignment, has been since Sept 09.
If you can find out who the owner is, you could probably do better. I wasn't fond of the sales staff...they kind of pissed me off, so I passed on the car.

I just purchased from Willhoit and couldn't be happier. http://www.willhoitenterprises.com/
A lot of guys on this forum have purchased from him. With over 35 years experience with these cars he knows what we want and can deliver.

I test drove the car today. Everything seemed fine, pulled strong no odd noises but the boost gauge didn't work and I noticed oil around the drivers side intercooler hose to the turbo. The gauge thing is probably the fact they just put the battery in the car when i got there. Can someone advise about the possible causes for an oil leak around the hose to the intercooler. thanks

Should get PPI done if you're serious.

Some advice:

1) You must be very patient
2) You must get a PPI
3) Pay cash
4) Minimum 10% of the purchase price, in cash, in a bank account, for sorting out after the purchase and unplanned maintenance ($12-15K is really best to protect against being "car poor")

I would like to add to my own list:

5) Do not purchase a 993 Turbo unless you know an excellent & reputable air-cooled mechanic. Just like having a good doctor, you need to have a good mechanic in your hip pocket. Or, you need to be an expert DIY'er. I researched mechanics in my home town as much as I searched out potential cars to purchase.

Well said. Wise words, indeed.

thanks for the advise, i will decide which of the 2 cars to move forward with. The car at northwest will require a trip. But could be worth it. And of course a PPI.

everything seems fine?????
not sure but I don't think reconnecting battery will cause boost gauge to not work and oil around intercooler hose would be alarming for me. this car is at a dealer to sell and they have not sorted it out. be very careul and be sure to do a ppi. good luck. be patient. good luck!

PPI by a very reputable shop is an absolute must. And the advice given by NO THwo O is also very good.

No OEM intercooler and those are NOT factory Turbos Twists wheels etc. etc. Just the wording of the ad shows they know crap about it. It was special ordered with heated seats? Come on. Don't believe a word a dealer says about these cars. Put some faith in the ones that deal in them for sure but they are just selling the thing. Believe what H2O says 100%. Even a good PPI does not guarantee you won't have one that can cost you many thousands. Be patient. The one in Oregon looks all pretty in the showroom lights but just beware. Especially a dealer saying "it will make you grab your checkbook". And while you are not looking you lose your ***.

Ok, good luck!

So I was right. This is what an OEM intercooler should look like.

Remember, if it is too good to be true...
