If it wasn't the the dimpling of the tunnel cover, I would have had this done already on my car.. There has to be a better solution for this..
I agree with this and "dimpling" sounds like such a nice term for pounding the snot out of a sheet metal panel .
If I were selling the SSK, along with it I would provide a pattern for the clearance/cut out in the sheet metal and a nicely designed sheet metal cover to go with it. The cover would come painted to match the existing panel and be held on with stainless hardware. Simple enough
I just took off that metal cover and while I haven't weighed it (yet) I struggle to believe it weighs that much. I'm busting out the scale this weekend. If its that heavy, I'm fabbing myself up a lightweight aluminum piece.
OOPS, you're right it can't weigh that much. I was using a metric scale, and wasn't thinking... I better go look at what the units are... it might be 2.6 kilos, I know it can't be 26 kilos! (and down to 2 kilos with the aluminum). I'm at work right now, will check later today.
Looked at the scale and weighed the stock part again, it is 2.6kg or 5.72lbs, and down to 2.0 kg with the aluminum part, so not that much weight savings. Corrected original post... feel a little like a dork
i just spaced my stock cover down a bit = no dimple and no contact.and that's with the original "longer FDM shifter".
cheers
Craig
Craig, while that works, I believe this plate should be tucked into the body so as not to upset the aerodynamics. Seeing how large my dimple is, you would need to space it down a lot.

Wow, that is much smaller.

Russ, the tray is attached by nuts that thread onto studs attached to the body, so a longer screw wouldn't work unless he drilled out the studs and threaded those holes, which is way more work than is worth it.
Washers may work, but the studs aren't that long so I'm kinda confused how he could get the proper clearance.
