Default Looking to make the jump into the Porsche world.

Hello Friends,

My brother and I are in currently in the market for new cars. We were planning on spending about $40k +/- each.

Several weeks ago they offered to sell my brother a 996 Carrera for a fair price, and he was very interested, but I'm not a fan of the 996s. So I introduced him to the 993s and he fell in love. So now we decided to put our money together and buy a 993tt S together.

So we are currently in the market for a 993tt S. But here is the problem. This we'll be our first Porsche. And we know nothing. I have done some research, but I wanted to speak with 993 owners who could give me a real world education on 993s.

So I need help buying a Porsche 993tt S. What should I look for? What should I stay away from? etc.. any help is welcome.

thank you guys in advance.

First, bravo on going with a 993 instead of a 996. You picked the big kahuna 993 to start with and with $80k collectively, I think you're going to have a hard time finding one unless it has very high mileage....which may be fine. They're just so rare. Might also consider a 993 for each of you or a 993tt.

I'd search this forum high and low and learn as much as you can and then make a decision. Regardless, get a good PPI!

If you are interested in buying an S I would expect you will be paying $100k ...for lower mileage offerings it will be well north of that ... what specifics can you provide in terms of what you are looking for ? color preferences, stock or modded car, mileage ( for example must be under 20k miles or mileage is not a concern at all ), how will the car be used? daily driver, weekend only in ideal weather, track toy etc...

Well, Im a huge Volkswagen/ Audi/ Porsche fan. In fact before the we made the decision of buying a Porsche, I was thinking about getting a project car (vw mk1, or mk2 gti) for my nephew and have it built for his 18th birthday.

But having a brother who is not a car guy, I was surprise when he told about possibly buying a 996, I couldn't pass that up and try to convince him to buy a 993 .

So it came down to a 993 Turbo or Turbo S. I'd prefer a Turbo S, but I'd take a Turbo just fine. Im looking for a White, Yellow, or Red in color. Black or PB interior. Mileage wise, as low as possible. But nothing over 65k. The closest to stock as possible, at least engine wise. this will most likely be a weekend toy. My brother really doesnt like going to the track, but im pretty sure Ill put it on the track a couple of times, and do many driving rally events with it .. I dont believe in storing cars, I believe in driving the **** out of them!.

As for the $100k price for a Turbo S.. WOW, I didnt think they were up there.. Well, as of now our budget really is $80k. But you never know, business could always boom!

You should check out Michael Willhoit. He has a nice burgundy car with 12k miles that has just arrived. I have heard only good things about him.

doesn't sound like u need the 'S'. Stay with the regular 993 Turbo model and save yourself the extra $50K. Basically as fast of car and if u are not a 110% Porsche nut it's not worth the extras $$ spent
