RS shift lever ~$60, FDM Golden Rod $170 shipped.
Coming from a mustang with an aftermarket shifter, the 993TT shifter felt a hell of a lot like the B5 Audi A4 I used to have. Easy to shift, generally pleasant, but ultimately pretty sloppy.
Install basics:
Lift car, remove center and small forward cover, pop off shift ****, pop off lower joint at shift lever, remove shift rod from lever, remove carrier and lever, swap rs lever onto carrier and reinstall, remove stock shift rod bolt and remove shift rod, replace with golden rod, reassembly the rest. Then dimple the ever loving hell out of the center tunnel.
Impressions:
OH HELL YES. There is a lot of talk about it only reducing the throws by 25%, but it certainly feels like more. There is an increase in effort, but holy hell are shifts far more positive, more direct, and just feel so much more solid. In neutral, the shifter moves as much as it did in gear, and now in gear it barely moves at all.
This is bar none how a 911 should feel and after driving it this way, I can't believe Porsche let the car leave the factory with the stock stuff.
$230 and 4 hours extremely well spent.
DO IT.

Sounds good. Just ordered the FDM ssk with the improved clearance for 4wd cars and the FDM platinum rod. Should be here hopefully for next weekend... will see if I can take pics of the change in travel before and after. I have a DIY modded shift rod with stiffened coupler in the car which I think works reasonably well, hopefully the platinum rod is even better.

For $230, you absolutely should consider it. Probably one of the cheapest mods that will have an effect on every drive, to the grocery store or on the track.

Quadcammer: Where are you getting your parts please? Is this likely to have any bearing on the longevity of other parts in the gearbox? Thanks for the posting? - Glenn

Glenn,
I get all of my porsche parts (that is OEM) from parts.com. Cheapest prices I've seen on almost everything (including sunset), and very reliable. They seem to be able to get all the RS parts as well.
The golden rod is a fister DePietro product (www.fdmotorsports.net).
This should not affect gearbox reliability. The vibration is transferred FROM the gearbox to the shifter, not the other way around, so there is no chance the u-joint (as opposed to rubber) would do damage. It appears the rubber is there solely to reduce vibration through the stick (of which I don't think there is much of an increase).
Cheers,
Oliver

Oliver,
Very good information...I was always thinking I wasn't going to do it because of the clearance issues and the denting of the cover but with all the positive things I'm hearing from you I think I need to do it...
Thanks for the push![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
