Intercooler concerns

I too am not to supportive of the fabrication or welding on that intercooler. The welds are not that great but only visually, functionally they will be fine. The two things that make the part definitely look "highschool" shop class is the stitched together inlet piping and the end tanks. Nothing looks cheaper than any tank fabricated from flat plate. It tales very little effort to form some shape or at the least round over the corners in the end tanks. They should also be tapereed to keep the pressure / flow even across the entire intake core surface. With TIG welds (especially the ones that are shown here) they have a fairly rough inside penetration, with that many welds so close together there will be some flow restriction. That probably has little effect in this application but that would not fly in a finite performance application.

I like the look of that Heggemann one Jean, do you have anymore info on those? Is the one on your 3.5ltr car a Protomotive one too?
Here's a pic of an FVD one i had my hands on, you can see they are tube and fin. I'm told they are worse than stock too, so i'm glad i didn't buy it

It was awhile ago but I believe I paid $2-3k for the Andial IC with core exchange. Andial use the stock end cans with the thicker cores (I have no idea whose cores they use though)

Jon, the Heggemann is the factory 3.6 GT2 EVO IC. In fact to be precise, Heggemann were/are contractors for Porsche Motorsports and they are the builders of the IC, however they supplied the end tanks and tubing (for the 3.8 twin plug Secan EVOs as well), the cores were not theirs, they belonged to another company which is arguably as good as Secan. Yes the 3.5Ltr is also a Protomotive engine and IC...quite a difference in quality huh.

It would be pretentious to give a credible opinion about an IC just by looking at it or the shape of the end tanks or cores etc..
I have great fun reading about this in the forums always though! The MODE IC cores are the same that Protomotive uses and many others, they do the job for most of us. The end tank shape between the different tuners that we see around is, in my opinion, a matter of taste and marketing rather than scientific research.
I would love to see the rest of your 965 though, looks like it is gorgeous!
