Default 993TT X50 430bhp - thoughts on upgrade to K24 450bhp

Thinking of treating my TT X50 K16 430bhp to a K24(+ECU) 450bhp upgrade early March while at the shop for it's annual maintenance.

How much do you guys think I can source the K24s (+ECU) for?

And how many hours to install?

Also is there a "real" performance/reliability benefit?

Cheers

You can't even feel 20hp in a 400+hp car and you'll get more lag. There are many better aftermarket options.

Know what you mean about the "20hp" but in this case changing to K24s definately changes the "feel" of the power delivery...

Check out the road test of the 450PS version below:

https://rennlist.com/forums/993-turb...o-s-450ps.html

Up to 200kph the acceleration of 430 vs 450PS is virtually identical, it is over this that the bigger blowers have the advantage.

I would say unless you drive the autobahn regularly of like to do vmax events stick with the 430PS kit.....

new K24's ~ 4g. If you get K24's do a 480-500hp tune. Makes a big difference imho. I did the job myself last winter. Took me a weekend with a friend. People say its more laggy, but i use my for track purposes and I also removed cats whne I did the job - so the differences seemed to offset each other. It is a totally different animal now.

Everyone tells you their shop & tune ecu map and compressor wheel, gt1, hyprid turbo, setup is better than everyone else's to try to get in your wallet. It is time consuming just to go through everyones data and compate the pricing options & Dyno numbers which are all very subjective with these cars.

I was able to do the whole job myself for > 4g (not counting my own sweat hours) & the offset costs of selling the old ecu, but to do the same job to have someone else give me my current setup I was quoted anywhere from $8,500 - $14g.

If you want a practical bolt-on kit and you use your car on the track often, the K24 450HP factory setup is unbeatable quality and performance. There is a world of difference between this setup and the K16 430HP kit when used under heavy loads or any other hybrid options. I have seen this first hand, the K24 factory kit runs seemlessly and very comfortable lap after lap, I dont know of any other tuner package that can keep up with it and conserve the life of your engine or its performance so consistently.

If you are after occasional acceleration runs only, you can find kits out there running higher boost levels, more aggressive timing, and hybrid turbos or Garretts with slightly faster response that can bring you the fun and probably beat the factory K24 setup for the duration of that run.

Overall I would go with factory option anytime.

Great thread below which shows what happens when the K24 X50 is remapped.... in this case in was Fearnsport.
In summary you get some big dyno numbers which as Jean says above may give you a couple of fast runs but will soon heat soak and be slower than the factory 450 tune....

Silly question - it looks like something is on the ground under your engine in the photo. Am I mistaken?

If you want to do anything go for a 16/24 so you still get the response of the 16 but some bigger top end. There are other hybrid combo's as well...I love the 16/24 as I do a lot of back road driving....the 24 is fun though as it feels more like a 930, but just not as user friendly...IMO....

...you are on a slippery slope my man!

Ditto on the 16/24 hybrids. You don't loose that awesome lag free low end driving. If it's mostly a street car, the 16/24 combo is IMO the best combo. You really start to feel the lag with K24s. You have to decide if the extra 20 ponies is worth the lag. Now, if you want big power with the aftermarket, then the K24s start to make more sense.

This is a good summary of what's been said, although I also tend to prefer OEM components. To be fair there are some 16/24 hybrid setups which work really well. If you have an hour or so to spare, then my quest for 500hp+ sums up pretty much every aspect of this discussion. You can find it here:

I have the factory 450hp kit on my car - still has a strong bottom end, feels smoth around town and really winds up when the turbos spool - its great!

I run a K24 setup with no cats and the combination seems to work well in terms of limiting lag. To do so though you need to go with aftermarket programming because you will run into issues with overboost
