Default Short Shifters ?

When my car arrived today and I drove it I remembered how long the throws were...

Had a SS in my 996TT and there were several options available...

Any recommendations for a SS for the 993TT?

Thanks

I bought the short shifter from Gert at http://www.carnewal-europe.com/main.htm

Inexpensive and relatively easy to install. I does require the fashioning of a dome in the otherwise flat drive shaft cover to accommodate the lower end of the shifter and linkage that in this configuration, sits proud and considerably lower than standard. Untimately, I baulked at doing this and returned to the standard shifter. It appeard to me that it would reduce clearance somewhat on a lowered car that still sees city driving, driveways etc. Many here have the installation, and I'm sure that they are happy with the product.

You need to check the threads on the 993 forums for FD Motorsports and their Golden Rod setup combined with the factory RS SS kit.

I ordered the RS shift lever from parts.com for $60

I'm also adding the goldenrod from FD Motorsports.

This should deliver much better shift feel and about a 20% reduction in throw. Not as obvious as the reduction in your 996, but as good as it gets.

However, the effort will increase with a reduction in travel.

Effort will increase as Chris noted... but wear?
I have heard the same rumors... but don't see any logical reason for it to be true.
The 20-25% reduction the RS lever gives isn't that drastic, though it is noticeable. I could see added wear to the fork bushings due to the increased effort but the transaxle end is seeing the same motion regardless of the shift goemetry.

The increase in effort isn't noticeable, at least to me. Especially if you take the slop and worn parts out of the shift assembly while you are at it. You can actually come out ahead from a "shift effort" standpoint with better, or at least fresh, parts in there.

You are next up... just need one person to get a core back to us.
I just ordered the last 2 new shift rods left in Germany to help with the backlog.

Anyhow, it should be very soon!
