another thought, i did not have to dimple the tunnel cover to any noticeable degree. I simply spaced the tunnel DOWN from the floorpan using SS washers.
I used the older revision "long" SSK shift lever from FDMotorsports.

I'm going to install their front tranny mount in a few weeks, i'll post up a photo of my tunnel cover.

cheers

This looks like my favorite solution so far. I would like to avoid welding. My tunnel cover is already dimpled, so I am not worried about that. I have a lot of work to do to finish this up next weekend. I will also weigh the individual components and get a total for the parts removed.

So you remove the torque tube but leave the front diff in place? What about front axles? Both Diff & Axles are heavy bits.

No, Viscous Coupling is located in the "front" of the transaxle, that's still in my car.
I removed the TT / front axles / front pumpkin.

Just received front tranny mount from FD yesterday.
It's not as critical on my NA car, but should still be a wise addition.

cheers

You have to remove the front diff. and axles.

Also, the route Craig went is one way to do it but it does drop the shift lever down a bit which requires "dimpling" the tunnel cover.

If you cut and tack weld the box in, it will sit in the same spot as RWD cars and does not require modification to the tunnel cover.

There isn't much welding involved... just a couple of short beads.
Never had an issue with any interior damage... certainly not a fire

good work so far.
Exactly!

however, you would want to come up with a "bolt-in" method that puts the shift box up where it should be to avoid needing to modify the tunnel cover.
If you have the center console out I would think this would be pretty do-able.

He's already got a dimpled cover, so I'm not sure Dave is gonna go to the effort to move the whole deal up, but thats good info for others doing this.

I also have the console out, so we'll see. I'm going to figure it out this weekend. The car stays in NJ, and I'm in NYC during the week. I love all the imput and feedback from the forum. Thanks for all the help and advice. I'll be sure to post pics and updates as it progresses.

ah yes, forgot about that.

In that case, bolt it up like Craig did. You have plenty of room.
Or tack it in place and fab a nice aluminum cover like Basal Skull did
